Alternator Fusible Link HOT
Ok, I blew the fusible link from the alternator post to the battery when I hit the post with a valve cover and it sparked at the alt. and battery. I replaced the battery and the alternator and it still woulldn't charge. So, now I replaced the fusible link, I cut the 10ga. power wire from the alternator and wired in a new 14ga. fusible link to the post next to the radiator that wires all the wires into the positive terminal of the battery.
Now, when the car is running the fusible link wire gets hotter and hotter. I tried different connections between the fusible link and 10ga. wire thinking it was a bad connection. Nothing is soliving this though. Please Help

Is the new fusible link longer than the original? I replaced mine with a 16AWG temporarily and it burned up after a few minutes under heavy load. I shortened it to about 3" and the problem went away.

Hmm, that's interesting, I think it is longer, I suppose the added length would give added resistance. Thanks for the tip, I'll try that out.

Well, I shortened the link, that didn't do anything.
I tried making new connections a bunch of times thinking the connection was bad and causing a resistance, that didn't do anything.
I'm at a loss here, nothing is changing it at all, it's hot to the point where it would burn you if you touched the wire. Please help

Any ideas what could be causing this? I didn't try 10ga wire because if its a problem somewhere I don't want to hardwire it without the fusible link and start blowing other things too.

Perhaps try an inline fuse on 10ga wire. Doesn't last as long if theres a power issue, but it's not as much of a PITA to change out when it dies.
