what heads to use ?

new build is a 92 350 l98 rebuilt stock bottom end. 9;3;1 .will be using performer rpm intake and carb with hei. th400 tranny stock converter and gears, for now.

my question is what heads would be best for just weekend street racing, this car is my toy, not a daily driver or race car. heres my options.

083- that came on motor. any potential here ?

416- 305 heads i have sitting arround.

441-just rebuilt with manley valves, comp springs, screw in studs. teflon seals, ported and guide plates.

built the 441 heads for motor that i blew up, they are 76 cc +/-. will this kill my comp. ratio.
416 are 58 cc and need the whole 9 yards, 083 i have no experience with.

or take all parts off 441's and buy a set of bare castings ? suggestions on a good set ?

also trying to to stay budget minded. (spent my wad on 441's)

thanks, mike.

If you wanna use the 441s, you could use those thin head gaskets to bump the compression up a tiny bit.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
083 is a decent head.

I'd suggest working them up similar to the 441s; and moving all that hardware over to them.

you've got a 76cc head, a 64cc head, and a 58cc head, what are you using to calculate the 9.3:1 CR of the engine

maybe use 1.5 rockers, and just pin the studs.

if you go to a 1.6 rocker, you may have to elongate the pushrod slot, and then you may screw it up, so then you might have to drill it out huge, and run guideplates, so then you'd have to pull your rocker studs, tap the holes, mill them down, buy guide plates, and collared threaded rocker studs. Then hardened pushrods for the guideplates of course.

Option 1 is easier, and you don't 'lose' anything really.

sonix, 9;3;1 was with stock 083 heads 64cc, that came on motor. they had 1.6 rr's. on them.
wasnt sure if 58cc would put me to high, or 76cc to low.

9.3 is a good place to be. The other heads would move that to an undesireble CR, IMHO, so I think the 083s are your best bet.

while on this subject can someone give me a basic lowdown on the advantages or disadvantages of going 1.5 to 1.6 rollers ? only reason is the motor with 083's on it was running 1.6's and i havent bought a new set yet.

The 1.6 gives you more lift from your cam than the 1.5. It also reduces the amount of travel for the valve train to gain those higher lifts.
