Running Rich! I know this is ghetto... FPR

Okay here is my scenario... I had a V6 MFI Swapped it to a 4BBL V8
so I put a mechanical pump on the V8 and it would seem to vapor lock (since it was pulling through the electric pump.
When it would vapor lock the car would die. So I took off the mechanical pump and wired up the electric pump.
I have a fuel pressure regulator in place I am guessing three port.
the arrows look like this

__
( )
( <-- V --> )

The line from the tank is connected to the bottom
the on to the right to the carb
the one to the left blocked off....
the fuel tank return i blocked off... I tried connecting that to the left line on the FPR but the car never got fuel...
so the way i have it hooked up now ... it gets like 5 PSI and soaks up my fuel like crazy.... tune it down anymore it dies...
drains my whole tank within 100 miles...!!!!
someone help me?

Reduce the fuel pressure at the carb to 3-4 PSIG. Make sure the float, inlet needle, and seat are operating properly. The rest is in carb tuning.

I have it tuned to about 2-3 psi and it runs super rich. if I tune it down more the car bogs at high RPMs I know I dont need that much fuel since you can smell the gas for sure and it eats a tank in a couple hours. I guess I will have to look up carb tuning.
