Still Stumped????
Still Stumped????
I began a thread earlier regarding this topic. 91 350 Z-28...new o2 sensor, knock sensor, CTS, plugs, wires. Here's the problem. Car starts up fine, runs strong, no SES while running (it does work). Once the car runs for about fifteen to twenty minutes it dies as if I am out of gas and won't start until it completely cools down (approx. 4 hours). Most of the responses I got said that it was my fuel pump; that sounded good to me. I had it replaced and it is still doing the same thing. I'm not too knowledgeable about open and closed loop, but when it warms up and it is in open loop, it begins to idle a bit rough and this is around the time that soon after it dies on me and won't start up. When I try to restart it, it turns over but it acts like I am out of gas. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I bought a ignition module at the dealer today...put it in and it still did the same thing. One thing that I did notice when I took the distributor off was that there was a fair amount of powdery rust on whatever the distributor rests on. What does this mean? What should I try to change next? Any other ideas? Thanks for your help!!!!
My truck would run untill it got up to temp. Then it would die like it ran out of fuel.I started changing pump, filter, complete tuneup and ignition control module.Didnt help. The pu coil is under cap and plugs into control module. It would only act up at temp and it was random.

It did on my truck. But it was random. To change it you have to pull dis out and knock a roll pin out.Mine had a bunch of carbon in the shaft so ibroke dis trying to change pu coil.I had to drop 100 bucks for a new dis.Could have only spent 10 if I didnt break dis.
Yes I did change cap+rotor.Ichanged every thing I could think of.After I figured out it was pu-coil I pulled distributor, tried to change pu-coil and broke distributer. The roll pin is at bottom of the distributer through the gear. You knock it out and pull the shaft that the rotor goes on out.Mine had a bunch of carbon in it and I broke it.After you got it apart pu-coil is held in place with three small screws.Hopefully you wont have the problem with breaking the distributer like I did.

i just got my car back this week. i had the same exact problem last week. it was in fact the pickup coil. cept i went and replaced the carp rotor coil ign module and the pickup, so it could have been one of those too. i was thinking the same thing with the feul system. the thing that threw me off is when i tried to start it again, it smelled like gas, so i knew it was getting in the engine.
So I take it that it fixed your problem.I was very frusterated with mine until I figured it out.Mine was just my truck.I can imagine having your camaro down during nice days really stinks.

yea, its been down since october. tranny blew up. finally saved up enough for the rebuild (17 years old here) and i take it about 3 blocks, and it started acting like that. but now its finally ok...i think. i got new codes today, maybe i shouldnt have gone with such a highly modified car...but it sure is fun.
I tested the coil; seemed to be fine. I connected a brand new AC Delco one that I had and never used. It idled for about twenty minutes then it died again, just like before. The only thing left is the pick-up coil. For a novice like myself, it seems too difficult to change. May pay someone else to do it. Thanks for your help fellas; I'll let you guys know what happens when I change the pick-up coil.

BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL when removing the shaft in the dizzy to change the coil, use lots of oil to get the shaft to move better and dont use a vice! lol
