Keep an eye on the timing with a light when you blip the throttle. What happens?

is it possible that the engine is pulling way too much vaccum and whenever i hit the throttle its advancing it way too much.isnt there a way to adjust the manifold vaccum.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
No, not possible.

Check to make sure your rotor tip isn't bent over to the side.

If you're using "ported" or "timed" vacuum, there shouldn't be vacuum there at idle anyway.

the magnetic pick up in the distributor is no good
check the wires that go to it to see if they are broken

its definately got to be running rich.

When i did the break in on my motor, 30min @ 2500rpm i burnt about 1/8 tank.

BTW Edelbrock carbs arent good for anything but looks! check out the numerous threads about them on the carbs board.
