My car wont pass smog.... Any ideas?
The Smog tech guy told me that my car is running to hot in the combustion chamber. I forget what part of the smog i achually failed but has anybody heard of this? And he thinks by replacing the spark plugs might fix the problem. I apologise for the spelling im terrible....

Move out of that dump of a state or cause the earthquake that will dump it into the ocean and free the rest of us from CARB
That will work and get you mad respect lol
J/K aside.
Too hot in the chamber would be NOX. EGR is there to lower the temps to reduce the NOX formation.
Or the three way cat is going bye bye.
Or you have lots of detonation which will cause it as well.(Hydrocarbons will usually be higher also)
time to do some sleuthing on your part and see what u can find
would help if u posted your emission results also so we have more to go on
later

high amounts of NOX are a result of a faulty EGR valve, bad timing, or a bad catalytic converter
id check the timing first, then test the egr valve and replace if necessary
lastly id pull back the carpet above the cat on the passenger's side of the car and see if any of the jute padding has been burnt or anything. if it has it means the cat malfunctioned at some point and was running way too hot (a common problem that often starts fires). if it the cat looks stock at that point, id go ahead and get that replaced too
after going through those three things you should be good to go for another smog check. if all else fails just slip the guy an extra $100.

well i just paid the guy for a new cat and it still didint pass smog now he is saying that my spark plugs are bad, and that they might be the problem. I just got a new egr last year. So i doubt the thats the case.

get all of the cheap stuff then. do a basic tune up on your car if you haven't already
PCV valve, plugs, cap and rotor, oil change + new filter of course, air filters, fuel filter, vacuum lines, etc etc. check the timing and set it to stock spec if it isn't already (can always set it back).
also after doing a lot of stuff at once i like to reset the ECM as well. this gives the ECM a chance to relearn. go take it for a drive after resetting it, at different speeds and acceleration.

posting the numbers your car did & what the maximum limits are would help a lot.
CO, HC, O2, CO2, & NOx all mean something to those who do this kind of work.
running too lean, timing, spark plugs that are too hot range wise, combustion chamber deposits, a non working EGR system all will have an effect on NOx production. a lot of aftermarket cats don't do much for NOx reduction.
its very unlikely spark plugs will have an effect on NOx if you have the right plugs in it.
