Car Stalls

I have a 1992 Camaro RS 305 tbi auto. When my gas is about half way empty or so when i come to a stop hard my car dies. It starts right up though. My fuel pump failed before i even had this problem so i took it to pep boys to have it fixed which was a big mistake. They are saying that it has nothing to do with the fuel pump they installed and that my throttle is dirty but i know its not cause ive cleaned it before and i find it odd that this starts happening right after they put in a new fuel pump. Also when i got the car back the whole air intake container was put on wrong it wasnt even laying level. What could cause the dieing after braking cause they obviously dont know anything about it. Oh ya and my pcv wasnt pluged in and the clip on one of my injectors was broken though it stays on and sprays fine.

Re: Car Stalls

Are there any codes? If there isn't you could change the fuel filter and put a timing light on it to make sure your timing mark is stable. Other possibilities include vacuum leaks at the fuel injection unit and intake manifold, as well as the other vacuum hoses. And lets not forget about the plugs and wires. Of course, it is possible that they messed up when they put the new fuel pump in.

Re: Car Stalls

No codes showed and my check engine light is on. They did change the fuel filter too at the same time as the new pump. I checked and it looked like my vacuum lines were pluged in ill have to check again.

How hard is hard?

Are the wheels locking up? Are you in overdrive?

Re: Car Stalls

if pep boys just recently did the work bring it back right away or they will screw you...

had them do a clutch for me... new centerforce unit... drop it off come pick it up at 4 they call at 2 come get it...ask for my old clutch they tell me i need to pick the car up at 4 again that it isnt ready yet....

come back at 4 $512 latter i am driving the car home the shifter is all over the place bouncing around... get it home and call them up they say it will take a few weeks for the clutch to wear in and the shift moving is because of the rubber tranny mount... 3 weeks later call them up they say come in and we will have a look go back they say they will take care of it in the morning leave it over night. the next day it is all set pick it back up the shifter is still bouncing all over the place they say that is how it is supposed to be... i jack the car up... they apparently couldnt get one of the crossmember bolts out so they used an air chisel to take the head off and ripped the frame rail... so i take it to a real mechanic he pulls the tranny out says there is greasy spots on the clutch and did i know that they put a Luk replacment clutch in? funny i thought the name on my parts was centerforce... then they say that because another mechanic touched the tranny they arent responsible... i said we will let the laywers sort it out...
their laywer has yet to show up at any of the confrenses my laywer has scheduled

Re: Car Stalls

My wheels arent locking up and its pretty much just normal braking not that hard or anything but the car will stall more the emptier the gas tank is when its full i can slam on the brakes and be fine. Also i already took it back to them and they couldnt figure it out and in the end said it was my gas gauge though another guy there didnt think it was that so i just took my car home and figured id take it to chevy and hope they can figure it out.

Re: Car Stalls

based on your last comment I'd say take it back to pep boys and have them fix it right. You're problem was more than likely caused by their f***up.

Re: Car Stalls

I can tell how much you like this car you take it to the shop and work on it yourself.

First of all never take ANY vehical to a PEP Boys period. Your better off learning and doing the work yourself. And trust me you may not know much about what you are trying to do, but you at least will put in the effort to learn and do it right, where PEP Boys main objective is to get you in and out.

Okay, it sounds to me as if you have a vacumm leak that you aren't finding. When breaking normal with a half tank of gas does the car die?

If not then definitly I think it is a vacumm leak. Start by inspecting the hoses.

From there go to the inkake and Tb base make sure there are no vacumm leaks.

Re: Car Stalls

this isnt a vacuum leak... this is a problem most likly with the pick up and pep boys dosnt want to drop the entire rear end to fix it on their dime...

Re: Car Stalls

I know i should have read up and fixed it myself but i didnt have the knowledge to fix it nor the time with having to go to school and work all the time. I did learn not to take it to them again though. Also with half a tank it doesnt die usally after half while braking hardly or close to empty with braking normaly. Ive taken it back to them already and they "looked" at it and basicaly told me it wasnt the fuel pump and one guy thought it was the gas gauge. Honestly i dont think they even looked at it i would have stayed and watched but i had to go to work. I talked to my auto teacher and he gave me one of his friends thats good with cars to take it to.
