Probly a noob question.
Hi all, im new to the forums here and am learning about cars. I have an 84 camaro with a 305 engine that recently died on me. I am considering getting a 350 from a chop shop and i was wondering if the 350 would bolt up onto the the tranny i have in my car already? It's an automatic.

Everything is the same.
You could put a fuel injection system on top of it, if you were willing to do all the work that would entail.

First off, what do you mean your engine died? What is the diagnosis and from whom? Switching engines and fuel systems may raise emissions/smog check issues depending on where you live.

well i was driving, heard a big bang from about under my seat where i was sitting, im pretty sure it was just a backfire, but anyway the engine shut off and i pretty much just rolled to a stop. i was thinking about fixing the engine but it has a lil over 300,000kms on it now and im a bit weary of that.

Moonlight, that happened to me, it turned out my distributor froze up on me. Never saw anything like it before,it just froze up, loud explosion, I put it in nuetral and coasted to a stop. If you have not done so, you may want to check it out. If that`s the problem, it`s a cheap fix and may keep you on the road a little longer.

Yea thats definatly a possibility, right now i just went to a few autowreckers for a 305 and the ppl kinda giggled at me. and to get a 350 engine with 108,000 kms would be roughly $1100, and got a ballpark of $400 to get it swapped in at a shop. Then i was thinking of slowly rebuilding my 305 or getting it rebuilt at a shop and sell it after.

Moonlight, for $1100 you should be in the ballpark for a rebuilt longblock, either 305 or 350. Do you need your car now for transportation or do you have wheels when you need them? If you are not in a hurry, there are options which could save you money.

If you are in a hurry, a rebuilt long block may be the way to go unless you have a good machine shop in your area. The distributor that froze-up on me was on a new 350 long block I put in my `68 El Camino. I reused all the old bolt-on parts and before long the starter went bad along with the alternator, water pump, regulator, carb., everything that bolts on to the engine. It got to be a real pain to deal with. If you are on a tight budget, check your used parts carefully and replace as needed. It will help if you get things done correctly if you have a good shop manual and wiring diagrams. You never said whether or not you have to smog your car.
