Just seeing if anyone has a clue what this could be.
I have a 305 tbi formula that runs amazing when running around town or on the highway.
As soon as I stop at a sign or light, the rpm's will drop to around 200 every now and then, and then jump back up to normal idle. Sometimes the car will die instead of returning to normal idle, and it the car starts back up just fine.
I have tried new plug wires since I found one had burned up on a header, and ran them over the valve covers instead of under the headers to prevent this from happening again.
I recently put new injectors in, and then found that my ignition control module was completely bad, so i replaced that with a nice one as well. After that i am completely stumped on what it could be

Any ideas on what is causing this??????

 

will it bog down like that with the e brake on instead of regular braking?

 

i haven't tried that, but it also does even if i throw it into neutral at lights and dont use my brake at all.
i will definitely give that a try though in the morning and get back to you.
also this doesnt happen the second i put my brakes on and stop usually, its usually after a few seconds of sitting there at a light.

 

i am having the same problem ATM with a little different setup than yours well just a carb. come to a stop and my idle drops low... how low well what ever it feels like that time... have to keep getting off the breaks to tap the gas... you could also try with the car idleing in drive pump the brakes if it effects your idle speed i would guess you have a leak heading towards the brake booster... that is where mine is DAMN YOU BOOSTER DAMN YOU

i have also noticed about 5 times in the past year going out to the car after it sat over night and steping on the brakes to fire it up and they are hard as a rock...

 

thanks for the tip... ill see if my car does it in the morning. but for some reason i still dont think it has anything to do with my brakes, seeing how it does it without the brake pedal depressed as well. ill definitely give it a try though!

 

alright i tried using my e-brake today at a stoplight to see if it would keep my car from dying, and it still shut off 2 times. the only gear that it wont give the symptoms i was describing is in park.
anyone have any other suggestions on what to look for?

 

Likely vacuum leak. Start there. (You did put the right goop under that ignition module right? (No, not the one that came with it. )

 

and you are supposed to use the compound that comes with the ignition module or a suitible thermal compound... DO NOT USE dielectric Grease!!!
no matter what you are told

 

The compound that typically comes with them is either dielectric grease or a really crappy thermal compound. That's why I always recommend getting your own, hence the 'NOT the goop that comes with it' bit. Wells sl-203 iirc is the part number.

 

they never come with dielectric grease... ever and if you buy a wells ignition module i bet it comes with that compound...and a special compound isn't necessary what comes with the module will be fine

 

Never huh? If you'd like to believe that feel free. Over the past couple of decades of buying parts I think I have a fair assessment of the situation. Ford saw fit to send out a TSB on it IIRC as well. And yes I'd assume the wells grease is what you get with a wells part, the # I posted was for just the grease.

 

i bought the bwd select ignition module, and it came with a clear silicone dilectric grease.... not the normal white stuff. do you know if that one is decent?
the stock gm one had the white grease

 

well today i tried a new idle air control valve just to see if it would fix anything, and it was a waste of time. has no one else ever had this problem?????

 

still cant figure it out. im takin my car to rpm tomorrow and theyre going to give it 3 dyno pulls while theyre figuring out what the problem is. hopefully this will be the end of the problem!

 

well i took it in and ran it on the dyno, and it showed that my car runs really rich at idle, and fine when running. it ran 201rwhp and 280ftlb torque.
whis led him to think that i may need to get a prom burned for my car to compensate for my bigger injectors and my mods. does this sound correct?
