Mounting to a stand ... which bolts?

I'm getting ready to mount an L98 to my engine stand. What size/thread bolts should I use?

Re: Mounting to a stand ... which bolts?

OK, found out through Google that I need 3/8" 16 thread bolts. Now I need to know how deep the bolt holes are in the block so I can get the correct length. Anybody got an answer?

3.5" and some washers from home depot works fine on my stand, yours could be different

Re: Mounting to a stand ... which bolts?

Aim for about ¾" of threads past the stand and into the hole.

Re: Mounting to a stand ... which bolts?

The first time I had a complete 440 break off an engine stand I started using grade 8 bolts to hold the engines on instead of anything that would fit.

Re: Mounting to a stand ... which bolts?

I measured into the threads on the block. They're 1" deep. The extensions on my stand are 2.5, so I went to Lowe's and got 3.5" bolts and some washers.

They only had 3 Grade 8's in the bin, so I got all three and one Grade 5 ... should this be OK, or should I wait until Wednesday when they get more Grade 8's in?

Re: Mounting to a stand ... which bolts?

I used 3" bolts because the 3.5" bolts were far too long.
