305 Valve covers

the bolts on my 305 valve covers are in the center.
i wanna get some chrome valve covers with the bolts on the sides of the valve covers not in the center.
(just to spice things up under the hood abit.)

will i be able to just get the covers with the bolts on the side and just swap out the center bolted ones?

Re: 305 Valve covers

You are going to need an adapter, but it is a common swap.

These are made by Trick Flow. Part number 31500811. Summit has them for $102.95. Other brands may be available too.

I have a set of Mr. Gasket chrome centerbolt valve covers. When I make my 416 swap I won't be needing them anymore. I'd be open for a fair trade or a reasonable price on them. PM me if you are interested.

Re: 305 Valve covers

IMHO a nice set of aluminum center bolt valve covers would look good.Aluminum most times gives a better seal and had better heat disperation(SP) than chrome steel. For the price of the adpator and the valve covers it maybe the way to go.

Re: 305 Valve covers

oh ok thanks
yeah i dont really wanna have to pay $100 for a kit. then the valve covers.
i might just do that.
i was thinking of using the ones i have now and sanding all the black paint and painting it or take them in and get it chromed or something
no idea how much it would cost to get it chromed.
anyways.
thanks for the info

SpitotRs305 if you have problem with me leave it off the boards and PM me. Other wise don't act like a "so and so" and attack other peoples ideas. I'm not going to respond to this post anymore so don't even bother coming after me one this post.

Why the thin skin? Nothing was directed at you. In fact chrome doesn't make you go faster. If faster is all you want, don't get chrome stuff.

If you like the look of chrome, go for it. What I don't understand is why you want perimeter bolt covers. They don't seal as well as center bolt in my experience.

Look at the pics in my vBGarage, you'll see chrome valve covers. They are Spectre brand, picked them up at Checker Auto Parts (Shucks/Kragen), about $35. Bolt on like factory, don't leak. I got them because the valve cover gasket rails on the World heads was too narrow for the factory '87 covers I had. Apparently, World used a cover they got off of a '90's pickup engine to size their heads (yes, they told me this), and GM wasn't always consistent with their cover sizes.
