2nd oil pan gasket still leaks

i just put in a new oil pan gasket the felpro all rubber blue one and i got the same leaks from the same front and rear part of the gasket i did not use any silicone on the gasket not even in the corners, i heard from numerous sources to put them on dry... the engine use to use cork gaskets and silicon, but was never leaking befor.. is it possible my pan is just simply warpped? id rather go get one than have to redo it later cuz the leak continues.

I don't know about the "Correctness" of it all.... but, I use silicon sealer even with the "rubber" (actually, I think it is neoprene??) gaskets. even the one piece fellers.... a little dab in the corners (both sides of the timing cover, and both sides of the rear main.) Never had any problems.

Since it seems you get to pull the pan again anyway..... find a nice flat surface you can lay you pan on (on the mounting rail) Kitchen table works great, but, bear in mind that you will quite likely **** off your mom, wife, S.O. of any other nature...... I always tried to do this, and have the mess cleaned up, before she got home...... anyway, with the pan sitting upside down on the table, it is relatively easy to see if the mating surface is warped......

Re: 2nd oil pan gasket still leaks

its an early model one like 70's id assume and from what i got off the engine code
----------
when i cleaned it it seems flat i put it on the side wall of the tube.. im more inclined to think its the round lips of the pan sinde it keeps leaking from dead center.. but i used no silicone in the corners and even the little print out the gasket came with says to use it lol... ill try that and for 40 bucks might as well change the pan too. thanks dude

Is your gasket for a thick or a thin seal pan?

Re: 2nd oil pan gasket still leaks

Are you 100% sure it's not the rear main and the timing cover seal?? I'm a mechanic for a living and it seems that 90% of the time, it's not the pan but rather the seals with a leak such as yours. Especially since the most likely place for the pan to leak is at the corners where everything comes together. Also....the thick or thin seal gasket is VERY important.
