Gas tank vacumn

I seemed to have lost the vacumn in my gas tank. since I've owned the car, whenever I took off the cap, I would hear the air escaping, now nothing. Anyone have a clue as to where I should start looking?
What caused the vacumn in the first place? Was it important for something?

Re: Gas tank vacumn

vacuum is bad

means the vent line from the tank to the charcoal canister was clogged somehow

vaccum can prevent fuel from being pumped out of the tank if the vacuum pressure goes too high

bad deal

seems fine now if it has none

good deal
