Need some tips for a new car, PROBLEMS!

Well guys, this is my first post on this forum. So, please work with me here, lol.

I just got an 88 IROC-Z with a 5.7L. It wasnt running, bad fuel pump. I had it running with starter fluid. Now that I've replaced the fuel pump, it will actually start on it's own. BUT, I have to give it gas. It won't idle well at all. It doesnt die immediately, but it the RPM's will just for a few seconds and then die out. I suspect there may be some open vaccum connections, but I don't know where all the vacuum tubes are.

If anyone can offer any advice, links, things to check that are common problems, this would help.

Thanks!!!!!

Re: Need some tips for a new car, PROBLEMS!

I'm having the same issues though on my 87 350 iroc but it didnt start till i took out the bosch+4 spark plugs that were installed when i got it changed the wires and changed the cap and rotor. Is your EGR blocked off or its filter dirty? How bout the fuel filter? I cant seem to find where my problem is cause it goes away after the car warms up, im not running any smog junk and im pretty sure all vacumn hoses are hooked up except when i bought the car it had a bunch of hoses plugged up and missing the purge canister though it ran great, was actually running a 14.50 with just freemods.
Help us out guys, i missing my Roc and am thinking about just selling the one i have and start over but ive put so much money into it and its made me smile so much

Sell that piece of junk to me and you won't have any problems with it starting anymore.

Make sure your CTS is plugged in/working. If the ECM thinks you're at -256 degree F (or whatever it things when it's unplugged) it will not run on its own unless you literally hold the throttle open but it will NOT stay running.

Ask me how I know.

So how old is the fuel in it? Since it sounds like it probably sat for a while. Old fuel will make anything run like garbage, even if you try to dilute it with fresh gasoline.
