speedo cable 88 camaro....HELP! lol

So yeahh, my speedo cable is definitely broke, i got the end off the trans (easy) but the one on the cluster im having a problem with. I know the break is by the trans since i pulled on the cable and out cable a line bout 5 inches long lol up by the brake lines and steering column theres a coupler... is that made to come off or what im trying to freaking get it out but i just cant find the right angle to get it out. so i guess maybe someone can tell me like in descriptive detail on how to remove it... cus im clueless. i mean i cant even pull the cluster out far enough to get my hand behind it to remove the cable from that... PLEASE HELP lol

you either need to reach in from underneath where the steering column is, or do what i did and unscrew the gauge cluster and pull it out so you can get to the cable. then there is a little tab where it connects to the cluster that you push down on and it comes right out.

Re: speedo cable 88 camaro....HELP! lol

yeah its one piece mine had to be dealership like i said but if u have it locally thats better. Autozone, Murrays, and Advance Auto Parts didnt have it. If they did itd have been like 15 bucks.. oh well at least its "GM Genuine" lol but just finished it all up. Since it was one piece i just cut the old wire to slide it out then used a wire hanger to pull it through the dash and wire and all that to get it to the cluster. that made it ten times easier but now it works and its a lot better. Noticed before it broke that it used to float around, guess that was a sign. Anyways jobs done now! Thanks for everyones input.

Re: speedo cable 88 camaro....HELP! lol

Okay so my original speedo cable broke a couple months back, I replaces it yesterday with one from Autozone around 5pm, and I was driving to the local salvage yard to pick up a headliner for my car and my speedo quit working again. What would cause the cable to keep breaking?! I have a 1yr warranty on it so I going to pick up another cable here in a bit, but I want to fix whatever It is that's causing the cable to break so I don't have to replace it every 24hrs.

Re: speedo cable 88 camaro....HELP! lol

I'd give a quick check to the cable/speedo head connection. If the cable wasn't clipped into place, it may have come free from the head.
