Need to order new injectors tommorow, in need of help

Hey, well all 8 of my fuel injectors need to be replaced (stock ones), apparently they got a heavy dose of ethanol somehow and it ruined them so they all leak/stream and thats what caused my entire block to be flooded with gas

my auto guy said he can get them @ 150$ a piece O_O

im looking to find them cheaper online and just have him put them in. Fuel injectos are something i dont know alot about can anyone point me in the right direction as far as best replacements for the stock ones i can get for the lowest price?

i was looking at the airtex ones on rockauto.com but i am not sure if they are correct

88 Trans Am GTA 350 TPI auto btw

Thanks!

Re: Need to order new injectors tommorow, in need of help

i have to ask, did you read what is said on that site?
from the site, "These are the new style Bosch Design III fuel Injector." so yes, they do not look like the old multecs.
"DIRECT FIT, THESE HAVE THE SAME INSTALLED HEIGHT AS THE MULTEC INJECTOR."
"WE HAVE MODIFIED OUR MOUNTS SO THEY FIT EXACTLY AS ORIGINAL. OUR COMPETITORS ARE 1/4" SHORTER."
"These have been rebuilt using vito o-rings and heavy duty filter baskets."
in your first post you said $150.00 each for stock injectors, these are $169.95 plus shipping for a full set.

sorry im just skeptical after buying a set that said they would work for my car and having them be wrong,
so these will fit exactly the same as the one i have pictured above? i just want to be sure, and it doesnt say per set for that injector, are you sure the 169 is for a set of 8? ill probably call them tommorow to be sure.

oh and one more note of why i think those are wrong
the 5235302 orignal ones that were in the car are listed as MPI not multec, and it is described as:
SAME INSTALLED HEIGHT AS THE MULTEC INJECTOR., but my car didnt have the multec's

i also found the original ones that i am looking for the RP 5235302 listed on http://www.injectors4u.com/injector_prices.htm ill call and ask them if they have 8 of them tommorow

Re: Need to order new injectors tommorow, in need of help

no problem.

even though they are a little shorter, the injectors you bought would probably work just fine. many people here have used them with out a problem. a search for SVO ford injectors will turn up a good number of posts.
but i can tell you as a professional mechanic, if someone brought a set of injectors for me to install that were shorter than the originals, i would not put then in. its has to do with liability.

GM used a couple of different types of injectors in the TPI cars.
the early type were a pintle design & were very prone to clogging & leaking. many times the standard way of flushing them didn't work & required they be replaced.
if a flush that was strong enough to actually clean them was used, most of the time the injectors would short out internally.
somewhere around 88 or 89 GM came out with the Multec injector which used a ball design & was a much better injector. they don't clog up nearly as bad & are much less likely to leak. an injector from a 85 TPI is the same length as one from a 92.
but the multecs also have a problem. just like the earlier design they flow the fuel around the windings to help cool the injector, but additives in gasoline & many injector cleaners can cause the insulation to break down & the injector to short out.
alcohol is a major player in this problem. as far as i know, all pump gasoline has some alcohol in it.
many of the newer types of injectors don't flow fuel across the windings. they also atomize the fuel better. thats what the Bosch Design III injectors are.

all TPI motors are Multi Port Injection or Multi Port Fuel Injection, or the short way, MPI or MPFI. its the type of injection system used. it means the injectors are mounted near the heads & have 1 injector per cylinder.

so you know, the injectors i posted are not brand new injectors, they are used.
also, the injectors from the place you just posted are not new injectors either.
to be honest, if you put a set of those stock rochesters back in, your putting the same poorly designed injector in that you have now.

so what your telling me is to get a newer injector?

should i have him put the ones i bought in? or buy those bosch design III's?
i just want to know if the design III's will fit right and he can put them in without complaints, i guess i could just print out your post or something.

these are the ones i have now, im about to send them back though, he said they wouldn't fit though because of the clip on the top slot

thanks for the explanation, appreciate it, looking forward to hearing your final word

Re: Need to order new injectors tommorow, in need of help

i wouldn't say your mechanic is an idiot, i completely understand why he is hesitant about using those injectors.

the injectors you have should work. they are the same ones that a good number of people here have in their TPIs. i would have thought some of the people who have them would be posting up in here.
a couple of points, there has been some debate about which ford injectors are the right drop ins for a stock 5.7, the yellow tops or the pink tops.
there has also been some talk about the o-rings that come with the ford injectors, they may need to be swapped out with some GM O-rings.
the injector retaining clips do need to be used to keep the injectors in the fuel rail, without the clip the fuel pressure can push them out resulting in a big fuel leak. using
the retaining clips is true for the stock injectors too.

a few posts about using the ford injectors,

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...injectors.html

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...ctor-swap.html

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...d-know-if.html

i would think with the number of questions asked & as much debate as there has been about injectors, there would be a sticky covering them.
with the increase of alcohol in gasoline, maybe its time for one.
