Re: Toxik's Build

I use an LC-1 from innovate. nice setup and i also have their G3 gauge permanently mounted in the car. Works great

You being MAF setup can even try the wideband fuel control in closed loop with the new wideband MAF bins available. I havent looked at it but sounds like a promising setup.

So if I buy this kit http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/x...cat=262&page=1 that is all I would need or I would need afew more things to maker it work proporly?

todays update on my car
dug though all my extra parts, to find the stock trans-crossmember. brought the crossmember to the shop , and they are going to do what they can... its almost too bad they have to cut everything up(it is very pretty)

~took pictures of all my parts I am trying to sell, now just have to upload and make a thread of left over parts, if anyone wants to buy anything let me know (shoot me a PM )

question for everyone out their what do you think about some hood pins?
example http://www.deftracing.com/aerocatch_...od_latches.htm something like that and ofcorse in black so it will fade away but still be their

then I am going to carpet the spare tire well in black carpet and make my amp wrack nicer9 instead of a pice of wood.

Re: Toxik's Build

SHE IS HOME!!!!!!

But not for long, I have afew problems on the way home/ while it was in the shop

1. I have a draw coming from my stero system some how

2. while at a stop light , my car wants to die. unless i give it gas( might be vac leak, didn't set the tpis sensor right, or might be cused by the electrical draw.) but when i give it gas it keeps the voltage up so she does not stall out.

I did not go above 35mph due to traffic but I realy wanted too, although I have to take it easy for the 1st 100 or so miles.

The cutout sound awsome!

So after I fix all these problems I Have afew ideas on what to do next just dont know wich fisrt.
1. buy a 99-03 ducati monster ( 750cc-900cc)
2. Buy new black (or black crome) wheels
3. aerocatch hood pins
4.new carpet/ door panels

5. new paint.( have a guy that will do a full paint job in 10 bussniss days for 2k.In a nicedeep tripple black or a custom color of my choice. kinda thinking about this b.c my t-t0p bar is off and my new soffseal weather stripping is not glued on yet.

6. other.

let me know and pictures will be up sometime within the next few days

#1....Your last post is USELESS without video! Let us hear it at least!

#2...Get black wheels or powder coat your current ones. You've been whining about black wheel WAY more than anything else.

Like Nike says.......JUST DO IT!

Re: Toxik's Build

Hey everyone just an update that is loong past due.

1. got chip from hawks- installed it this morning , car is running better with it.But I still need to adjust the idle.

2. aerocatch hood pins are going on tomorow
3. painted center line of arm rest red( to match gauge bezzle, hatch struts and all the other suspention parts
4. I dont like the fact that so far the throttle resonce is not as snappy as i would like.I feel that it should get up and go and not take some time.
5. ive beeen super busy with work, snowboarding and finding a little bit of time to sleep and chil, but allas im trying to finish this build soon.

6. I had the money to powdercoat my wheels but i bought a new snowboard instead.....so wheels got pushed farther down the list.( emblems are red now )

Toxik--
Good to hear from you!! Just today I was trying to think of some members who havent posted in a while, & since we both had t-top issues, I was wondering if you sold it, gave up, or put it in storage!!
It's good to see you're still involved in the project.

To answer you questions
~my car has been in storage ( garage 4 blocks from my house) but every once in awhile i get a chance to work on her.

na not gona sell my camaro....

i didn't give up on her, but I did buy a 2005 yamaha r6 with 900mile on her ( now) and ive bought some mods for her , and shes not even tagged yet ( grips, shortie levers,4300 hids, exhaust, some new plastics, stompad. so that tied abit of my money. up.

but i'm still here and my t-top issues is fixed!

and thanks for the words of inspiration!

Re: Toxik's Build

Toxik-
As far as changing oil, there are as many opinions as ppl you ask.
Personaly, I would chage it & the filter if:
(1) The oil is no longer an amber color after sitting for 4 months.
(2) The oil smells like gas-- reguardless of age or milage.
(3) I've heard that once you use a synthetic, you are supposed to always use it. Something about affecting seals & gaskets.
I have personaly switched between conventional & synthetic a few times with no adverse affects. ( Yet anyway!! LOLol )

Re: Toxik's Build

Your Camaro looks real good in black IMHO!
Did you want to keep the door stripes & door IROC scheme?

Paint is a headache to pick!! I wish you sanity when that part comes around!!
What wheels are you thinking about or just tossing the idea around??
If you decide to sell the ones on now, I think someone would buy them kinda quick. IDK...seems some ppl LOVE them & would beat your door down, then at times it seems no one wants 'em.
How did you do the inner part of the arm rest? Looks good & smooth!!
How would you incorporate the red in the interior // exterior?

MADNESS...It's ALL a MADNESS!!!LOLol!!

Re: Toxik's Build

The red on the arm rest are very easy to do. i taped them off. painted , let dry and was gona clear em but i dont like the way the came out. so im going to redo them ( with out tons of wind and going to try a different brand of paint.

the wheels i would like to trade or sell to get other wheels, dont get me wrong I like them but i don't love them. when I bought em I mainly bought em to be a temp wheels so I could drive with my 13'' rotors.

I've been talking to this painter and my car is going to stay black...... but where gona come up with some awsome paint sceeme mabe have some candy colors ghosht flame or some airbrushing. or somthing just a very very deep black

the way i am going to tie the red from the interor to exterior im not too sure... but I do have full red suspension, red calipars , red gage bezel, red hatch struts an some little other red pieces but i dont want to go overboard b.c then it starts to look gaudy. and rice-ish.

for the gold stripe i have now, that WILL be coming off. I have some in red/blk from phoenix graphics but i dont think I will using them.

I will be filling in the rocker emblem holes, the rear bumper holes ( big stupid line ) and then working from there....i dono that part is more of an idea right now.....

well most are ideas , but this will turn out very nice and hopfully the camaro will finnaly be magazene ready .( or the calipar of nice )

so if anyone has any suggestions on what i should do or direction i should go post up!

shlo~

Re: Toxik's Build

Well when I repainted my black 89 iroc I went with an original look but with a couple mods. I removed the emblem in the front bumper. I wish I would of went with a color change. Red or yellow with black head lights buckets and grill and luvers(spelling) would of been sick. Next time I will shave the stereo antenea, and may do the door locks and handles, fill in the emblems in the ground effects, ect. When you paint your car make sure to take as much off the car as possible. I didn't remove the door locks or handles, ground effects or fenders and the seems cracked about two months after it was done. I toched it up and it looks ok just not perfect. The "whale tail" wing hawks sells is nice on the 90 and newer cars but the stock 91-92 ground effects and wing are nice too but dont have the same "shaved" look.

The fact of the matter is there are probably only a few thousand NICE thirdgens around anymore. Locally I have the nicest of the fast thirdgens around. There are a couple nicer and a couple faster but most are beat up or have 295/50/15 tires sticking way out of the fenders on a 2.8 car with 3 different color body panels. I'm not rippin on those guys because I was one of them after I wrecked my car and drove it around wuth primered pieces for a year. So the point is a nice thirdgen is going to stand out no matter what just be careful of doing too much two tone stuff. Its just my opinion , but when guys do the red and black all over it starts to make a project get that import/rattle can look. I only mention this because you said you want to keep the car classy looking.

When I redo the interior I plan to get it as close to original as possible plus little things like dynomat every where and little things to make it seem more llike a new car inside instead of a 20+ year old china cabinet with wind noise, tire noise, door rattles, ect.

Keep in mind I'm not doggin anybody, I think your project is beautiful. Love the intake and valve covers. If the HSR could support my power goals I would consider it in a polished version. I got the 195 comp heads and I plan to try a miniram this time. Good luck man. Dont give up, you're so close.

I hope I have it planned out. well sorta planned out just not sure if I am going to do a mod or two.

im using my stock borg warnner 9bolt ( its actauly orange inside?!)
13'' rotors on all four corners!

Paint will come in about 2 months. yes I know it's awhile to wait but it is exepensive.

In the mean time I will be doing as much work I can clean up the engine bay and interior.

Also just signed up for a motorcycle class , so I can ride legaly! wooohoo! (but it cost me $280) . Not going to buy the camera I want b.c that would set me back afew hundred bucks.

So just gona work and try and save money and work some more. ehh I don't have a life but I do have an expensive addiction.

I will post more pics when it stops raining and I actauly have something to show all my thirdgen friends.

This thread is far from dead.....

toxik, yo. HOODPINS LOOK AWESOME. Now show me detailed pictures of how they are installed. Let me see up close and personal. I am getting my flush style (opposite style as yours, which sit under the hood) installed and need to show the guys doing it kind of what needs to be done, as far as clearance to the battery and if the front cross member needed modding. That and you mounted yours right where I want mine, in the center of both headlights. Please get me an array of pictures. Thank you. Can't wait to do mine.

To do flush ones, they have to be glued/bonded/fiberglassed (whatever) to the bottom of the hood. So their strength in holding the hood down is going to rest in the strength of the glue/bond/fiberglass that was used.

Sorry, but I just don't trust that, especially on Camaros with their headlight pockets acting as "parachutes" for air to get under & lift the hood.

"My hood pins didn't fail. Look! They are still there & latched. The hood however, decided to leave...." That would totally suck.

Re: Toxik's Build

So far this is the closest I have seen to these hoodpins breaking with the style I have. Scroll to bottom to see CRASH photos. You will see the hoodpins DID NOT have a distribution method (as stated by aerocatch is needed for this style, to use adhesive to bond the assembly to the hood, then to glass double the area of the hood pin assembly mounting flange, over the assembly itself to also help mate the assembly to the hood for better force distribution).

Once you check out how these were installed wrong (No adhesive or glassing over the flange) and needed a crash like that to make them break, will make you realize I will be fine going sideways and for daily driving. But if I wreck, I'd expect them to break, in which they didn't even break that bad either.

http://mechdb.com/index.php/Ford_Escort_wreck

I believe I will be fine and don't want you guys worrying about me to much. I understand the risks that can come with doing hoodpins period. Or for the fact I have seen fiberglass hoods disassemble from themselves (ripping apart) with and without hoodpins. So its already a risk running a fiberglass hood. Thanks for the concern, but I'll be fine.

No rush toxik.

Are you kidding me?????

I'm gonna lose hours & hours of sleep worrying about you! I think I need to go find me a therapist, to help me cope with if you are going to be alive tomorrow, or have a hood through you & your windshield!

As for that Escort....I wonder how is back is now, with the 5-pt harness shoulder straps mounted the way they were.

Re: Toxik's Build

If someone can tell me how this is stronger/better, then I will certainly agree on getting a top plate for distribution. In which my brothers camaro has this setup but he does not use the circle plates. Hood is fine, never noticed it lifting or the pin bending, has been over 120mph, and through corners I'm sure quicker than I would take (because he's crazy), all this on a Berlinetta with a v8 swap and no front end bracing.
Hood Pin Picture 1
Hood Pin Picture 2
Hood Pin Picture 3
Hood Pin Picture 4

In which until then, I will go with how aerocatch says to install the setup and make a fiberglass overlay for the underneath to spread the force more through the rest of the hood and not just the 6 screws overhead.

Stephen, I totally understand what your saying but I just don't see evidence of it being a problem if properly installed. In which was not installed right on that escort, which was being held down solely by its 6 screws, in which held up fine up until an accident, where the screws force cracked the pieces. Im looking for 1 response to prove this setup as a high risk of failing, even if installed how I state or how Aerocatch states.

I've always liked those pins, just never knew who made them, where to get them, or even bothered to look.

Much cheaper than the Aerocatches too!

Cheap because they've been around a long time.....
Because they are easy to manufacture.....
Because they are not the "latest & greatest".
