low oil pressure

Guys, I recently swapped heads, and converted from a flat tappet to a roller tappet, and noticed my oil pressure has dropped significantly.

What could go wrong during these swaps that could be associated to having lower oil pressure?

Re: low oil pressure

go to a mechanical gauge. Mine was getting lower and lower as the car warmed up and it was the sensor. Mine was reading 15 psi off at idle and 30 with a little bit of throttle.

Also remember for ever 1k rpm's you only need 10 psi of oil pressure. I am the better safe than sorry type of guy...

Re: low oil pressure

Before swaps:
Cold - 50 psi
Warm - 15 psi idle, 35-40 psi cruise rpm

After swaps:
Cold - 40-50 psi
Warm - 10 psi idle, 25-30 psi cruse rpm

Re: low oil pressure

Oh, and please keep in mind that I have tried changing the sending unit, and changed the dash gauge with two others.

Same results. But no, I have not tried a mech. gauge yet.

Re: low oil pressure

Try the mechanical gauge. I tried the exact same things as you as I started becoming worried too. It was one of the best $20 I spent on my car. I think the gauges have a problem and become tired.

Re: low oil pressure

Try the mechanical guage. Its not always the sender that fails in these cars (though thats the case the majority of the time), the guage itself can fail too. Had that happen to both my oil pressure guage and my temp guage a few months apart from eachother. Ditched both for mechanical guages I ran into the car.

You can use a mechanical guage just as a diagnostic tool though.
