http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

Block:
3932386....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro
3932386....327.....69....2
3932386....350.....69....2 or 4

Heads:
3932454....69-73...307
3932454....69-79...350..........Truck

If the block and heads have always been together, it's a '69 truck 350. If not, at least the heads are truck 350, most likely from the 70's.

Figure on the heads being performance junk. The blocks were known to have casting & machining problems (lifter bores not properly lined up to the cam, starter bolts not properly placed, core shift). If it ran okay and doesn't have any weird wear evident, it's probably okay for rebuilding (if the bores aren't already 0.060"-over).

Re: Engine casting numbers

Dont know if the heads and block have always been together. Bought the car this way. Are there any way to know what block it is if the heads was put on at a latter date. or if they have always been together/

You might get some hint by the numbers that are stamped on the block pad in front of the passenger side head.

Measure the cylinder bores - if more than 4.000", it's been rebuilt.

Check the crank casting #. If it's a 327 crank, it wasn't delivered with the heads. If it's a 302 crank, somebody did a very untoward thing to a valuable engine.

Re: Engine casting numbers

Ok I got home and pulled the oil pan. The crank #s are 3932442. I think it is a 4 Blot main no sure if the front and rear are also 4 blots or if it is just the center ones. I think like the center 3-4 are 4 bolts. But the firts and last are just 2. Just trying to firger out what i have and if it is a good start for a rebuild.

From www.mortec.com:
3932442..267,305,350..cast...medium journal...3.48" stroke

It's a 350.

A "4-bolt" only has 4 bolts on the center three main bearing caps.
