Re: missing a part on engine, what is it?

That's where a mechanical fuel pump goes, but you don't have to use a mechanical fuel pump, and I doubt you will be using one on your car because there should be a fuel pump in your gas tank. Why the block off plate is missing is a mystery. Did you just get the car or something? If you use an in-tank pump or inline pump, you block off the mechanical fuel pump location with one of these http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-401030/

Fuel pump on a carbureated engine, block-off plate on fuel injected.

That is where the mechanical fuel pump is attached. Refer to the following picture:
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x.../fuel_pump.jpg
The picture shows a plate that blocks off the bottom half of the mounting location on the engine. If you use an electic fuel pump, then this mounting location needs to be blocked off with a plate.

EDIT: haha, 2 people replied while I was typing my reply.

Many EFI engines in the early 90's weren't drilled for the fuel pump push rod or oil drain-back hole, so no block-off plate is needed.
