Oil Leak and Running Issues... Help! *Pics*

Okay, so after a day at the track, I noticed my car running funny towards the end. I started leaking oil, and if I hold the gas steady at around 2.5k+ rpm it starts studdering, cutting out, and jerking alot.

I looked under my car and found this, what is it, and isn't something suposed to be attached to the bottom of it?

Hmm... What would cause that running issue then? I can find the oil leak in a few days. I am heading to oregon tomorrow for a few days.

Anyone have any idea on the running issue? Timing? Fuel Pressure?

Okay, While adjusting my fuel pressure, I found that the distributor cap wasn't on tight. One of the screws is stripped on the body of the distributor, causing it to really wear the cap out on a few *****.

So I am going to get a new cap, and helicoil the distributor body and see how she does.

Maybe check the valvecover--could be leaking thru the gasket due to not being fastened down enough?
Just a thought...

The only things I would know to check would be---

rotor .. damaged, carbon, very well used

plugs.. oil//gas fouled, very well used

wires.. arcing against a header from a weak spot or burn-thru

ECM codes

Coil out-put

Other than that, IDK.

New rotor and Distributor cap...

Plugs aren't the newest... Im going to put some new ones in when I get back from oregon, and I am going to check and clean all my plug wires as well.

No SES light, but I am going to check the computer for codes tonight to see if it has any stored codes...

Car drives fine at WOT and if I keep it under 2300 RPMs, and it only jerks and misses at a certain RPM and RPM increase speed. I am going to keep driving it short distances, maybe it will throw a code or work itself out.

I noticed it was smoking alot at the track too, has me a bit worried as my engine only has about 20k miles on it at most, and it didn't have any smoking issues that bad until I hit the track. Car was running pretty good and I did get my best time too. I am going to check more into the smoking when I figure out the running issue.

the wiring in the pic doesn't look good. does the rest of the wiring look like that. could be part of the problem.

No, wiring is all good. It is just greasy and dirty. It is actually in good condition, except those few wires.
