High quality RUBBER motor mounts and trans mount?

Does anybody know of a supplier of high quality RUBBER motor mounts and trans mounts? I currently have polyurethane on both and hate the added vibrations. I am trying to avoid autozone type parts as they are typically low quality. If I can't find anything I will just buy from the dealer.

I am not interested in discussing poly vs rubber vs solid.

Thanks.

For rubber I'd probably get original AC Delco parts. Not necessarily from the dealer, though.

Or even NAPA.
I too dislike Autozone and PepBoys.
Advance seems to sell decent parts as well.

I'll at least have to go to the dealer to get the part number. I can't seem to find it anywhere.

3rdgenmaro, Thanks for the compliment. You have a nice collection of cars yourself. I do have a flickr account with some pics, mostly projects pics but there are some good ones here.

Thanks James,

But I can't seem to find those part numbers on GMPartsDirect or Google. Any ideas?

The numbers were from my Parts & Illustration Cat. CD. I'd check with your dealership (could be those numbers are discontinued).

Re: High quality RUBBER motor mounts and trans mount?

Well I went to the dealer today.

Here are the current part numbers.

Motor Mount: 22188497
Trans Mount: 17982949

The crazy part. The dealer wants $120 for each motor mount and $140 for the trans mount. Even GMPartsDirect wants $80 for each motor mount and $75 for the trans mount.

So I'm still looking for other options. Any ideas?

I'll go with NAPA if I don't hear anything else.

Give those numbers to an AC Delco dealer.

There were several types of cross members and mounts. Sorry, I don't recall the year(s), but one of the latter was an expensive oil-filled contraption, IIRC, that was very expensive. See post #17 of the following link for a pic:

If that's it, check the last post in the above link for more info.

How interesting. I figured they were all the simple solid rubber design. I've never seen that double cross-member before. My '87 350 A4 has the single crossmember. The oil-filled unit is very interesting. I bet it isolates vibrations better than the rubber. Might be worth a shot. It looks like from the picture in post #17 of that link, the oil filled unit should work with my single cross member right?

Also the parts guy at the dealer said he didn't have a part number for my motor mount or trans mount for my year/engine/trans. He did have a number for '88 and on. I told him they were all the same. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'll try another dealer. Or check the part drawings.

I called AC Delco, they confirmed the part numbers I got from my dealer.

I ended up ordering from a dealer. They were $171 shipped for the motor mounts vs $200 as GMPartsDirect.

I just wanted to update. I got the new rubber mounts in last weekend. They lowered the engine back to the stock height vs the poly mounts. Much better now.

Did those mounts come with the engine brackets also, or were they something other than the general rubber mounts? I just can't see any justification for a dealer to charge what you were charged.

Re: High quality RUBBER motor mounts and trans mount?

They come with the clamshell that bolts to the k-member. I have no regrets. Its highly likely that these will last significantly longer than the normal made in china specials from autozone, ect. I don't mind paying for some piece of mind.

I guess you certainly can't put a price on piece of mind. Glad they are working out for you.

Just out of curiosity, whats the difference between the factory vs. poly mounts (other than the obvious difference in material)? My old "rubber" ones where pretty much non-existant when I pulled them out for poly mounts, so there was nothing to compare. Is it a difference in design? Or, does the rubber deform more, allowing the motor height to lower?

I do have to admit that the height change is a nuisance with a stock hood.

The metal rod that the long motor mount bolt runs through is positioned differently on the rubber mount vs poly. I also suspect the sag of the rubber plays a part as well. Overall I estimate the difference is nearly 1". For instance my y-pipe used to actually make contact with the floor pan now there is a significant gap. Also, the UMI strut tower brace would not fit because it hit the runners. Now there is at least a 1/2" gap. Again this is comparing brand new poly vs brand new GM rubber.

Poly is just stiffer so the weight of the drivetrain doesnt compress as much. Rubber vs poly should have the same dimensions compared side by side

You may want to look into whats causing your engine to vibrate so much, even solid mounts shouldnt chatter your teeth too bad

Sorry, that doesn't account for a 1" difference. Like I said the difference comes from a combination of the poly being stiffer and the fact that the pin hole in the poly mounts is located in the wrong spot.

As for the vibrations, they are caused by the mounts lifting the motor to the point where the y-pipe hits the floor pan. Also, I'm not talking about teeth chattering vibrations, merely more vibration than i prefer on a mostly street car.

But then again I'm a bit different than most here. Seems like most prefer to make their cars as uncomfortable as possible despite never taking them to a track. I prefer to have a car that drives well on the street yet can and does see track time. I see virtually no advantage to poly motor mounts on a car like mine. I bet they would be fine if they were designed to sit the engine at the correct height, but I've learned my lesson.
