What the hell engine is it?????

What the hell engine is it?????
I recently picked up what I THOUGHT was a TPI 350 engine.....now I don't know and I am majorly confused by what I am finding. Can you help???
The block casting is 14093638 which by all indications says it is a 350 block. On the drivers side of the block behind the head on the bellhousing is a "GM 5.0L" code, 305? it also has an 89I1 stamp as well. Then I checked the heads and the heads are stamped with the 305 head stamp 14102187. I am majorly confused here.... a 14093638 block with 14102187 heads????? Does this make sense to anyone?
Did GM used some of the 350 stamped blocks for the 89 305 Irocs? That's what this engine is supposed to be out of..........perplexed.

There's nothing stopping someone from putting 305 heads on a 350. Something is wrong with your block casting numbers. There's no way a 305 and 350 can share the same block casting. The bore size is too different.
If you don't trust the casting numbers, you'll have to pull a head to see how big the bore is. Although the block casting number says 350, all the other numbers indicate it's only a 305.

I guess I'm really looking to see if someone knows if GM used 350 blocks for 305 engines. I know the blocks are the same but I am talking about a blocked stamped as a 350 but used for a 305.........

You can't use a 350 block for a 305. The casting for the bores is completely different.

Pulled the head today........it's a 305 engine. I'm pissed! I did my research before buying and the 14093638 casting number on this block was wrong! Oh well....I sold this engine to my brother and got my money back so at least I'm not out anything except the time to go get it........if you can't trust the casting number I guess the only way to know for sure is to pull the head.......the bore measured, with a tape measure, right around 3.75 inches

Re: What the hell engine is it?????
The numbers on the drivers side bell housing are raised which means they were cast in the same process as the bores. These numbers will ALWAYS be correct. Keep that in mind next time you buy an engine. The stamps can be screwed up because they are put on later in another operation by another operator.Maybe I saw that wrong...were the raised numbers incorrect? That is a big bad on GMs part

Does it have a t5? maybe someone put 305 heads on it and used the bellhousing from the 305 also because no 350's came with t5s
