I don't know what Jiffy Lube is like in your area. But here they are staffed by lube techs with absolutely no technical background. There is no way in the world I would ever let one of those hacks touch my car. While the labor quote from the dealer sounds high, the parts quote sounds low. Too low to include all the necessary parts. You need to replace plugs, wires, cap and rotor and inspect the distributor for visible signs of failure.
A secondary misfire will not cause code 42. This code is caused by an issue somewhere between the distributor and ECM. You either need to educate yourself to properly diagnose this system or find someone who can.

Thats b/s don't spread crap like that around. If you had a bad experience, fine, but most dealership mechanics are just that - mechanics. Just like all the independent shops. Difference is - they (we) work at a dealer. The labor rate may be high but if your willing to actually pay it, you'll usually get good service. People complain about dealer mechanics, but never wanted to pay for diagnosis in the first place. Everyone wants everything fast, free, and flawless. Thats why the service industry is in the toilet to begin with.

What is sometimes hard to find outside the dealership is qualified mechanics. Our cars are getting old too and not many mechanics are familiar with them. I suggest you interview any shop you go to and see if they know your car.

Re: Engine Missing! Whats wrong?
I got the Camaro running on all 8 cylinders again! I started to talk to my neighbor about what was wrong with the car (the same one that noticed the miss) and he said that he would give it a try based on all the estimates. So after a new set of plugs and a new set of wires it is running perfect. No more shaking at lights, loss of power, or bad hesitation. Just RAW untempered POWER!!! Thanks for all the suggestions everybody and for sticking with me through the entire process.

Re: Engine Missing! Whats wrong?
Update: Not only have I noticed increased throttle response but my car has a powere curve now when it used to just fall on its face on the first to second gear shift.
Question: You know the wire that runs from the distributer to the other component (rotor?) is it important to have that wire changed out too? If so where can I get it?

You mean the wire from center of the cap to the coil?
It should have came with spark plug wires but many times you can buy it seperate. Just pull it off to see its condition you dont have to as long as everythings working in harmony.
