89 camaro rs OBD plug?
Hey guys i need some help, this ir my first 3rd gen and i have an 89 camaro rs with a 305.
i just got the car a while back and its in the shop because i need to replace the heads and gaskets. After i got it i tuned it up ( sparkplugs, wires, dist. cap and rotar, fuel filter, oil filter, oil change, and air cleaner) and most of my dash lights went away after i did the break shoes, cylinders, convoy kit and such.
Now i need to find the OBD plug or something for a scanner. The autoparts store will scan it for free if i can find where the plug is for the GM scanner but i have had no luck looking online. MY dad says its probably under the drivers side dash but the Guy at the store said it would be somewhere else for vehicles older than 96.
Im only 17 so sorry if there is any typos, but i would appreciate the help if someone could direct me towards the inlet.
-thank you

Re: 89 camaro rs OBD plug?
You don't need a scanner for one of these cars. All you need is a paper clip.

I think he means combo kit, brake hardware.
While the paperclip method works for reading codes, an actual OBD1 compliant scan tool is still of great value in diagnosing an OBD1 vehicle. It's possible that an AZ store has a generic scan tool that will read GM OBD1 with the right interface, though not likely. Im afraid the counter person you spoke to probably just doesn't know the difference.

Re: 89 camaro rs OBD plug?
okay ill look for it after i get my car back thank you. yes convoy kit is break hardware like adjuster and springs, e clips for holding the parking break cable onto the shoe and such. Oreillys said they could use their standard GM scanner on my car if i found the OBD plug but they didnt know where it was so thank you. My dad just told me it wasnt in the dash on older cars so i had no idea. also im having cooling problems if any of you are knowledgable in that field?

It is right beside the fuse box on the drivers side. Small black box with 12 pin holes. It is called the ALDL.
