Anyone with knowledge on cams?
Ok I'm rebuilding a 305 engine I have as a spare. I won't to give it noticeable power and torque. I'm getting the heads machined down to around 62-60cc. I have no clue what the duration of the cam should be for intake/exhaust. Any suggestion?

Re: Anyone with knowledge on cams?
Yea but they're popular because of the idle they make. I'm trying to get good torque and decent horsepower.

Re: Anyone with knowledge on cams?
The Hotcam is a poor choice for a 305 unless you don't care about low rpm power.
Is this a roller cam motor? If so, the LT1 cam mentioned , especially the one from the B-Body, will give excellent torque and good power to 5500 rpm.
Unless your application is intended more for strip than street, with serious gearing and converter, I'd limit intake duration to about 210 @ .050" and exhaust to 220.
The GM ZZ3/ZZ4 roller cam (208/221/112) would work well, slightly less low rpm torque than the LT1 cams, but would extend the power curve to near 6000 rpm.

Re: Anyone with knowledge on cams?
I'm going to be putting this into my 305 for autox and street use, it was what I found that was close to mw66nova's (someone who has done amazing things with the 305) recommendation.
Edit: You need new valvetrain for this cam, I'm just sharing it to give you an idea.

Re: Anyone with knowledge on cams?
How can you guys be posting anything when we don't even know yet what casting number of heads the OP wants to use? Not stock 305 heads, since those start out around 58 cc, so can't be milled to 60-62 cc.

Because he asked for a suggestion, not the exact camshaft he should be using.

Re: Anyone with knowledge on cams?
Figure out what you have first, then call one of the cam companies instead. Asking for advice for camshafts on this forum is like punching yourself in the nuts. Talk to someone reputable that REALLY knows their stuff, and not just another salesman from Comp or Jegs.
