any tips? i just resealed the intake manifold (used permatex red gasket maker instead of o2 sensor silicone this time) im sure i wired something up wrong but i cant figure out what. When i turn the key the engine cranks and doesnt stop cranking until it runs out of battery. HELP??

It was starting before you did intake? , if so , just have to go over everything you did. Distributor hooked back up? coil? fuel lines? If so, next step is to check for fuel and spark.

 

started great before i took everything apart. it seems like an ignition problem but i only messed with three connectors that were ignition related. as far as i can tell everything is hooked up correctly. the spark and fuel wouldnt explain why it didnt stop cranking tho... tried to check my relays but our multimeter doest work

 

Dang dude that would freak me out. Just to hear it screeching like its going to start non-stop. Interesting I've never heard of this

i marked the rotor and housing so i wouldnt mess up the timing. is that what you were talking about? im new to this forum

 

Yes, getting distributor back in wrong will make it not start. It's easy to get it off though, the rotor turns 30 degrees when pulling the dist, and maybe the crank moved? Might be best to static time it to eliminate that possibility

If you are getting a spark at plugs, and fuel . thats a strong possibility

what do you mean the rotor turns 30 degrees? it went in easily and lined up with my marks. also, could this cause the cranking problem? im more concerned with that than the not starting

 

I don't think you've quite framed the cranking question in a way that's understandable , and that's why no one has mentioned it . Are we to believe that when you turn the key to the start position , the starter begins to turn the engine's crankshaft , and then when the engine does not start and you let go of the key to stop attempting to start it , that the engine just keeps on cranking , even though you aren't holding the key to the start position ????

If this is true , maybe your starter's solenoid is sticking ???

 

yeah when i turn the key the engine cranks, and it continues to crank, even when i turn off the key. i had my starter tested today and it failed, so i think youre right it was the solenoid. (btw can you get the starter off without removing the exhaust??? i couldnt) may need ANOTHER new battery tho
