performer rpm fit under hood? whats stock intake height?

86 firebird trans am, now that it is running good time for something fun to
will a performer rpm fit under the hood?
And what is the stock intake height?

Presently I have a stock gm aluminum intake, not a hi Performance one just what came on a basic car in this era. Want a performer rpm and not a performer, since I have one available.

Axle/Gears: Stock? Lol
It will not fit. My friend had his motor built with one and a holley 4 barrell. And the company slammed the hood and dented all the way through the hood. Now he runs it with no filter

I don't think so. My cowl just (>1/8 of inch clearance) clears my carb with that intake.

That's funny....I have had the Performer RPM with a Holley (and sometimes a Q-Jet) on my T/A for years with a 14X3 inch Moroso filter with a drop base...yes the top has a rub mark from the underside of the hood, but there is no damage to the hood and it certainly never bent or poked through the hood. Stock hood btw.

Re: performer rpm fit under hood? whats stock intake height?

I've got 2 1/4 inch of clearance from top of my air cleaner with the stock intake right now since
the filter is a low open element drop base, with a thin air cleaner.

Funny thing is I had a 82 z28 and the regular performer intake left no room. Had to use a stupid coal filter and it still hit. Possible the different eras had differing amounts?

How will the rpm work on a stock 350, with a q jet?

I am going through this same thing on my car with the same intake it will fit, its close but you need a drop base air cleaner. 1.75-2 inches.

Yes it does,

You will need a dropped base air filter.
Moroso makes a nice 14" dropped base filter,

Also if you want to pick up some extra CFM use the K&N filter top. instead of the moroso solid top.

Call Edelbrock tech support. The can give you the measurements of their manifold vs. stock. I know, I went through this.

Btw I will never use another K&N or any other cotton type filter on any of my engines. Sure they allow more air in but at what cost.... they also let more dirt in to you engine too. You decide.

I got it installed a while back. Fits great with a 3 inch filter drop base

Re: performer rpm fit under hood? whats stock intake height?

I've read that performer rpms fit and are a good upgrade. The air gap ones don't fit. This is info that I've read not practiced though

Re: performer rpm fit under hood? whats stock intake height?

Well I don't know about the standard performer, I do know That my air gap rpm leaves little room with my cowl good as stated before. I didn't realize before that the refualr performer was the one the OP was talking about... Sorry!
