TV Cable keeps going out of adjustment

My TV cable in my Firebird will go out of adjustment occasionally. Like every week or two I'll be driving and all of a sudden the transmission will shift much later than it should. So I let the car cool down and readjust the TV cable then it shifts correctly. After another week or two it'll do the same thing again and I have to adjust the TV cable again. I cannot figure out why the TV cable keeps coming out of adjustment so frequently. I'm thinking about replacing the cable all together but does anyone have any ideas?

It seems the plastic ratchet mechanism may have lost tension or is stripping. If you can get a good replacement, it may be worth tampering with the ratchet mechanism to block/clamp it in place. If things go badly, you can always replace the assembly.

the price of a new cable is cheap and easy insurance compared to burning up the trans, get one that's the correct length and youll be good to go

Do you by chance have a part number of a TV cable?

Re: TV Cable keeps going out of adjustment

They’re different lengths depending on what you have (carb, tbi, tpi). Just go on rock auto and select what you have and you’ll be fine
