With Dynomax headers I was running at the time I wasn't able to, if your gonna try you might want to remove the steering shaft.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Installing engine with headers on it?

I don't even think SLPs will go... in my car they didn't fit between the AC box and the steering shaft. There might be some variation in individual cars, or year models, or whatever, in that area though.

Given that the steering shaft is quite eeeeeeezy to R&R though, it could be said that "almost" any will "almost" fit that way. But it's usually still eeeeeeeeeezier and much less risky to just lay them in the engine bay and drop the motor in between them, like everybody else does.

Re: Installing engine with headers on it?

So my Hooker shorties right side header can be bolted up prior to engine installation? Cause that's the PITA side, for sure. Left side is a piece of cake.

Re: Installing engine with headers on it?

I was mainly thinking about the rear most bolts and accessing them,

BTW, anyone use these?

https://www.proformparts.com/locking-bolts

If as advertised, kinda beats getting the last C-clips in.

Um , , Driver's side is the side of the car where the steering wheel is , , , Passenger's side is where the pretty girl sits .

She don't get a steering wheel nor stick shift to play with , So .....

Driver side is left, passenger side is right.

Re: Installing engine with headers on it?

Side bar note if you put the engine in from the bottom you can have everything on including the AC compressor. Bolt the motor to k member 1st lower case over it. I set the motor, trans & k member on a 4 wheel dolly then lower case on. Have to watch sway bar to front crank pulley closely. Done it both ways now prefer out the bottom easier with a 2 post hoist. But can use cherry picker to lower front end over the car.

I recall that's the way a lot of guys did it with Mopars back in the day.

Don't have a hoist though, but will look it over, maybe clear a path for the forklift.

I do need to do some front suspension stuff on it as well, gonna think hard about doing it this way.

Re: Installing engine with headers on it?

Thats how 4th gen guys do it, out from under the bottom.

Done it several times with a 4th gen Camaro.

Though I've always come out the top with my GTA, but definitely easier to go out the bottom.

Sadly, I have LT's now, and those must come out before you do anything.
