I've heard varying opinions from every 3000 miles like conventional to 35,000 miles that someone posted the other day. I change mine every 4000 miles and use Mobil 1 5W30.

All types of oils in an automotive engine should be changed every 3000 miles. They all start to break down around 1800 miles.

Highway tractors go 15,000 miles between oil changes but then they usually hold 10 gallons of oil and the filter alone holds a gallon.

Yeah, and they have much thicker oil, and stay at a cooler, more constant temp.....

Amsoil says every 25,000 or 1 year whatevers first. Also they want the filter changed at half that. However, myself I would go no more than 6,000 max.

The grade of oil has nothing to do with it. Tractor diesel engines run at 195-205 degrees and the oil is around 180 just like in a car.

Acutully our cars have a 195 t-stat and our new (2001) S10 runs at 195 too. The thicker oil makes more of of an oil layer beween the parts...it also breaks down slower then thinner oil....All of the Dumps(F350 mason dumps....they get beat) at work run betwwen 15w-40 and 20w-50(dino)....I change the oil and it is in .
better condition then the 5w-30(dino) comin' out of our cars......I don't care what you guys say, I can look at the proof in front of my OWN eyes in PERSON.....
