Stock l98 tpi cam upgrade zz4 or tpis

What are the differences? What would be better for a daily driver/roadtrip car?

Im doing a budget refresh on a 91 stock 5.7 car.

That TPIS cam from Hawks is the wrong one for your 1991 engine.

Is the zz4 a good choice? What else would need to be done for the zz4 assuming i reuse the existing heads. I do plan to do heads and exhaust after the car is sorted out. I’m just looking to get it back on the road for this season.

a little more performance without sacrificing drivability. A/c .. powertour…long roadtrips…1000-3000 mile road trips but a fun car around town. Possibly a tkx in the future over the stock 700r4.

car has 3.23

Re: Stock l98 tpi cam upgrade zz4 or tpis

I have a ZZ4 cam and think I'd rather go with that tpis super profile l98 cam.
We put it in a friends 91 350 tpi and its really nice.

the ad may show a LS cam but it's description is mostly right. Give tpis a call or shoot an email to get the correct cam. (Jim is super busy so give him a bit)

If you want it to sound stock and pass emissions I'd probably stick with the ZZ4 cam.

The version of the Super L98 cam shown in your pic is for a 1955 to 1986 SBC. It is a flat nose retrofit roller cam meant to be used in older pre 86 blocks that don't have provisions for a factory roller cam.

The version of the Super L98 cam you need for you 1991 L98 is the step nose cam for factory roller cam block made from 1987+.

Emissions is not a concern but drivability is. I will see if i can find a video of a super l98 sound.

Anyone have thoughts on lifters the reviews for comp cams lifters is not great..are any reusable? Is it advisable if they have 150k miles?

As long as the lifters roll smooth, I'd use them. The new stuf is a crap shoot anymore
