Electric fans, Fbody single, Carivan double, which would you get??
Hopefully I will get to do some needed work this weekend:hail:
I'm thinking of going to electric fans on both of my cars, but which one should I use? I was thinking either finding a single fbody fan or maybe going with a setup from a carivan, "dual fans."
Anybody have thoughts on these two electric fans or what make/modle car/truck has a great fan/fans that I might want to look for???
The electric fan will be setup as puller, stand alone system Im removing the belt driven fans. One car has Ac the other does not.
Any suggestions would be great.

Tell ya what, having lived through the era of manual/fixed fans, then clutch fans, then single electric fans, and now having dual fans on my IROC...dual fans would be the ONLY conversion I'd do.
Can't speak for the Caravan setup, but I feel the dual fan setup in my IROC is the best V8-cooler I've ever had.

well i think that one fan should be enough depending on how hot u run. on the other hand dual fans would be alot safer for the fact that u wont have to worry so much about overheating.
btw-what is up with this :lala: it kinda gives me nightmares

Get the dual fans. I got my dual fans off of an 80's model dodge dynasty or something like that. My car stays very cool. Dual fans all the way!

Sounds good to me guys, thanks for the replies.
How did you dual fan guys set yours up?
The camaro is going to be a swich since im the only one who drives it, but the firebird is also used by my wife.
I was thinking of just using the adjustable fan swich for the both fans and not bothering with the AC relay. This is an $18 adjustable swich or a swich with and AC relay built in for $38. I just figure when the AC kicks on, the fans will follow shortly reguardless. What do you think??

I'd go for the single fan. On the 87+ f-bodies they've got dual fans but only one turns on unless your AC is on. So 99% of the time, you've got 1 fan going. On my 85, I've got 1 large fan, which has to suck more air than 1 small fan.
Now if I could only get the bastard to shut off.

Check out the autoparts stores in the section where they keep the aftermarket fans. They have that swich I mentined thats $18 that is a built in self contained adjustable fan swich. It bypasses the OE relay and I think the guy said you can set the fan to come on from 160-240*. Its a quick fix plus a good upgrade over the stock unit. I'll see If I can dig a pic or part number for that. Looks like I'll be replacing lifters instead of retrofitting electric fans this weekend.

dual fans....which ones does what
Ok, with a dual fan you have a primary and secondary fan. The primare is on the drivers side and the secondary is the passenger side IIRC. The primary fan is controlled buy the ECM. The secondary fan is not included in the ECM loop. It has its own sensor between 6 and 8 cly. That sesor makes a ground at a temp around the mid 220s. The A/C does turn on one of the fans but i am not sure which one....havn't used my A/C yet
. Anyway...If on one fan is working(prob the primary) I suggest replacing the sensor for the other with an aftermarket sensor that matches your t-stat. I am running a 180* t-stat and I am getting asensor that turns the fan on at 200 and off at 185. I think the only way to adjust the other is to get someone to edit your EPROM.

Yea hypertech makes a chip for you cc guys thats supposed to remap the fan switch to the lower temp thermo. The passenger side fan is the one that comes on with the A/C. Which Fbodys came with dual fans, TPI's? I doubt I can find one but its worth looking for.
