That's a lot of smoke. I'm hoping I can buy one of those digital cameras that record video. My GFs room mate has one, pretty cool, hopefully during spring I can bring my car up here and get some vids of it.

My digi cam takes great pics, great movies, but it dosent record sound to well. As far as the smoke, thats because It is freezing here today and the car wasnt warmed up

In the summer, my car blows no smoke, not even at start up

(Just some black when its reved which will be fixed)

Seems like a lot of black smoke to me, but hard to tell over a video.... I would say it is a bit on the rich side, but if it is really cold out and the car is in open loop, I can understand it being a bit rich. You should try slappin a scantool on it and see how the BLMs look. Do you have an AFPR? If so, maybe drop the rail pressure a bit.... Did it smell like gas big time?

I have always ran rich since I got the car. My dad said when I hit it kinda hard, id puff some black smoke out that back. But today it was rediculous, thats why I took the video. I should have waited for it to get warm so there would be no smoke besides the black crap. But my exhaust does smell gassy.

Whats a AFPR? Im a newb.

My dad says my problem is that I have a stock chip with a 160 stat in it. But I will hopefully fix the runnin rich problem in the spring (12 MPG, good thing its a week end car )

wow you got a sweet car!

Yeah, that's a lot of smoke.. and 12mpg really sucks for a fuel injected car. AFPR is adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Maybe you need to replace your coolant temp sensor in the front of your intake manifold... What kind of camera is that? I wouldn't put a 160 degree thermostat in a thirdgen either.. try 180+.. Next time I change mine Im going to use the stock 195 because my car runs so damn cold.

It is a cannon s110. It takes REALLY Good photos! Its kind of expensive though.

The guy I bought the car from had a 160 in it with a jet chip. Then he took the chip out and left the 160 in I believe.

Whats wrong with your car running cold? I thought TPI liked cold?

TPIs have to reach a certain temp to reach closed loop mode. Or something like that. I though 160* stats weren't good for a stock computer.

Hey I'm runnin rich, I think? I got 11mpg, woo hoo! I've got an 89 TPI 350 IROC-Z. How is it possible that my car would be running rich, isn't there sensors that should tell me its running rich? Or shouldn't it adjust to not being rich? Are my sensors messed up? If they are, shouldn't I be getting a Check Engine type thing? What are some causes to running rich?
