Amps is the measure of current not voltage. Most modern cars with electric everything come with 100 amp or higher alternators. My 89 came stock with a 105 amp alternator. A higher amperage alternator will NOT cause any damage to the vehicle, that is what the voltage regulator is for. A higher output alternator will keep the battery in a better state of charge and handle the demands of the accessories easier. Keep in mind that the condition of the battery directly relates to alternator life, that is a crappy battery or one that is on its way out will force the alternator to work harder to maintain a charge on the battery. Most Delco alternators can easily be rebuilt by the vehicle owner. I rebuilt mine a month or so ago, took an hour or so but it was well worth it. If you need more info drop another thread. Danno
Summit is selling some very nice looking 140 amp alternators for TPI cars. And yes switch your underdrive pulley over to the new ALT. and you should be able to use the same belt you are using now.

BriteRed86: Probably a 105-110 amp. Especially if you have TPI. Maybe an 85 if you have carb.
Underdrive Pullies: these free up power by reducing the speed that your acessories turn at. While this is fine for a waterpump or power steering unit, your alternator's output is proportional to the speed of it's rotation. So, the slower your alt. turns, the less juice you have. You may have noticed that when you're stopped for a while, your volts tend to drop off. If you don't spend any time in traffic, underdrives won't hurt you. I have power everything and 350 watts of H4 lighting, so I like having lots of amps.
March makes a Power and Amp pulley set that lowers the speed of your water pump, power steering, and A/C, but raises the speed of your alternator, to keep you powered up..I'm getting those
