beat a CRX but...
...what are they doing as far as mods to these things today to help these things keep up??? I almost never street race, or do any racing for that matter, but i jsut had to race this older civic CRX i see racing around all the time. ...line up at the light and when it turns green, he lets out the cluch from idle and floors it and the car actually has traction problems and actually chirped second gear. Needless to say even with my nice sticky AVS intermediats and some traction he managed to get a good three car lengths on me from a standing start before i could even cross the line! And he jsut kept pulling and pulling. I managed to reel his *** back in after 60 mph or so and pass him but he really gave me a run for my money. I was impressed with what it could do, considering it was just a four banger. I can say one thing for sure, it doesnt sound like the usual rusted out beat to hell civics and i thaught it actually sounded nicer then my old 98 VTEC accord with an exuast.
Hah! That's pretty scary man, if a CRX rocked me by a couple car lengths off the line I'd probably be so rattled I'd quit right then. It's good to see that you kept your foot in it and showed him what 4 more cylinders mean.
People are modding every sort of econobox they can now. In my area, there are several CRX's, Civics & such dipping into 14's now after engine swaps. The price these kids pay for all this is absolutely ridiculous.
Many of the Talons & Eclipses around here are touching high 12's too!

ive been pretty scared with what some of these chitboxes can do these days. Even my friend who is a die hard gm fan baught a celica all-trac and even makes some money on the side swapping engines and what not into these cars. Guess that shows what people want to drive and race.

i was pretty rattled now that you mention it. I saw him launch and i was thinking "OMG!!! im gonna get toasted by a CRX... IN FULL VIEW OF OTHERS!" (there where alot of cars behind us) At Least i made it around him so i didnt have to be laughed at by all the other motorists at the next light.

there's this guy that comes out to the auto-x circuit with an actual Civic Type R engine from Japan that he swapped into a
94 Honda Del Sol. I asked him what he ran in the quarter, and he said "14.4s". I didn't say anymore, because I didn't feel like saying, "what a waste of money".

^ double post ***** ;)
anywayz, i have been beaten by a couple crx's. The cars are quick to begin with. No need for a motor swap to hit the 14's in one of those. i saw this crx that was in low 12's with turbo and intercooler. the car weighs almost nothing. look on ebay for CRX and you'll find some pretty quick ones.
good win though. never underestimate them cars.

prOject-IrOc got it right - those things weigh nothing therefor they don't need much hp to have a high power to weight ratio. BTW a moron with a wrench could bolt a turbo to one of those cars...

Yea i know what you mean. But if you think about it, look at what todays automobile industry is based on. S200's, sentra SE-R's the new neon RT (or whatever it is). Its all based on economy cars with 4 cylinders. It use to be the other way around when all you needed was a V-8 and a transmission without all the stupid turbo's and junk, the whole reason for the fall of the camaro and trans am, im you ask me.

Pretend you're a moron and get a wrench. Now try to turbo a v8. Mind you keep it under $500.
It really is stupid easy to turbo a civic.

my friend has this engine swap called a zc from japan in his 88 crx with a 5 speed, its pretty quick.
they put loads of money into this 4 bangers and some are pretty quick i have lost to a civic hb with a gsr engine in it, i lost to a crx with engine swap and turbo. they didnt kill me but still beat me.

You don't have to fab a header for a honda. You can get an adapter plate to bolt a dsm turbo to a HF exhaust manifold. Do some reasearch it requires a lot less fabriaction than a v8 turbo project. not to mention there is only half an engine to hook pipes to.

some people don't go out to by a car just because it has a bigger motor then another
you know people do take OTHER things into account when buying a car

when i was at the track and one of my friends and i were icing down our intakes we seen a greenish blue CRX that sounded like chit make a run on slicks and skinny's that ran 10.91! it sounded like it was gonna blow up the whole time. my vette runs 14 flat and my friends LT4 vette runs 12.8's we were like dayum! so i was like ok this is a strip car no big deal.
well the next night at an industrial complex with my other friend that has a 69 vette with a 4 speed and 4:11 gears went to watch some street racing low and behold the same CRX was there in street trim racing! it was the fastest car there. 2nd fastest was awd talon that was only a car or so behind the CRX.
