2.8 vs. 4.3

i was going home and a guy in a 2003 ford f150 puls up to me and asks if i want to race, i said sure thinking i was going to lose but i be damned if he wasnt about 3 car lengths back! at the next red light he asked what it was, and i told him a 2.8 and that i was suprised that i actually beat him, he said the ford was a 4.3 and that the truck was geared for torque and not speed, but a wins a win

I think he meant 4.2. but those things are dogs, even 5spd ones. Especially if they are a work truck with stuff in the back. Watch out for the GM 4.3 in a base truck. My dad's GMC can hold it's own on the highway and moves pretty darn good for 4000 lbs.

Non vortec 4.3's are slugs though. I've driven too many

My dad's got a 97 F-150 4.2l 5 speed, and it's pretty quick through the first 3 gears. The gear spacing in the 5 speed is strange and it's definitely not for racing with. I will say that it's noticeably quicker than the 1998 f-150 4.6l auto that my friend used to have, which is sad for the cammer V8.

Thats what I'm talking about Al, that would be awesome. I drive a Vortec 4.3L in my daily driver 95 Blazer. It holds its own real well, especially off the line (3.73 posi) and on the highway. It'll rev to 6,000 rpms in 1st which is damn good for a 6, eventhough my Trans Am does that too. Its not really that fast, it weighs 4101lbs. Plus at 6,000 rpms in 1st, the Blazer hits 30mph and the trans am hits 50 haha. Good kill though; stupid truck. I don't think I would ever race anyone in the blazer; unless it was one of those punk r*cers...

yea the 4.3 vortec's arent too shabby in my beater/daily driver 94 blazer i have the 4.3 vortec and i can stomp the usual **** (early mid 90's civics, accords, and some of the older integras) and yea mine loves to rev it out 6k through the first 2 gears, a few days ago i took it up to 124 (at least thats what the speedo said, its digital) i was going downhill though . hell mine has 200k miles on it now and still runs strong too. needs the timing adjusted however the idle is getting a little rough.

That makes me friggin mad!!! I drive a 00 4.3 vortec blazer and the governer kicks in at 95!!!! Not that going that fast in those things is safe. 75-80 in that thing is okay, but any faster then that I get a little nervous. I used to hit the governer at 110 in my old car (98 Grand Am) every couple of months, but I think governing my blazer once is all I needed.

I like 4X4s too crazy firebird kid. I don't know how fast I got my 95 Blazer up to, but it was over the 100mph speedo with no problem. Vibrated like a b*tch though. Unfortunately it won't rev past 4,000rpms right now

well thats aftermarket. I think the new colorado with the I-5 turbo 5spd will have a little say in what the big bad L does. Little turbo upgrade who... front mounted intercooler wha?

Keep dreaming dude, GM doesn't give a **** about performance trucks, the Lightning will reign surpreme in truck performance for a while....

lol and yeah compare a modded truck to a stock-ish truck...still a little GM biased eh?
