What the HECK happened?

I was first at a light at Hunters Green and Bruce B. Downs and a minivan was next to me and I wanted to get in front of her to go to muvico a flew blocks behind me. This red 95? up eclipse spyder was behind me. Well I got around the van and he started coming up fast then I hear him make that "psheet" sound...I figured he was shifting gears? I kept hearing him do it and then he jumped a little ahead of me. It kept making that turbo sound? I was like *** damn how many gears does he have? So I went up to 55 or so and got beside him and shook my hands like "oooo wow i'm so scared." to get him fired up. It repeatidly made the sound, so I just slid the shifter down to 2nd and slammed it and pulled on him hard and I shut down at 70 and he just flew by me after I shut down.

I thought those things were fast...He had to be racing because he kept making that "pshheet" sound turbos make, right? I don't know. I'm thinking he had a CAI intake on a regular intake that made the turbo sound because my old 94 Camaro V6 I owned, I had bought a **** intake off ebay for it and at certain throttle posistion's it made a turbo "psheet" sound. I also saw no intercooler.

The car just had 1 spyder badge on it, no model badges at all. If he was going for the sleeper effect, he surely failed because I could hear that turbo clear as day. A kid that lives in my neighboorhood turbocharged his RS eclipse and you can't hear the turbo but he has a BIG *** intercooler...Maybe this guy had one of those turbo speaker kits off ebay..

Any thoughts?

2g Eclipse convertibles most of the time were NA, I believe GS would be on the rear right of the bumper. However he might have had a stock GS-T with an open element filter and a hard intake pipe. The stock turbo on those is a total piece of crap but it's L O U D when you put on an intake pipe and open element while remaining a mid 15 second car. Pretty cars, lots of potential, slow as **** in stock form especially adding the 500lbs of convertible equipment.

Must've been what he had. I noticed the dual tipped muffler (sign of GS-T) and it was debaged except spyder. I have a mid 15 second car. Of course I got the immediate 5 car jump on him because I was not going all out on a busy road...I guess thats why he did the fly by, wasn't expecting me to shut down so fast.

*** thats all those can do is...MID 15s? good lord those are slow.

Ummm...read my signature. Where is your attitude coming from? I have track times (it ran a 15.6@89.96), I know my car is slow, and I was surpirsed that the GS-T's were so slow... I thought they would be high 14 second cars.

Maybe you should learn to read.

eh, when there's attitude, you'll know

i saw your sig, i ignored your sig, the point i was making wasn't that you thought your car was fast by comparison or whatever, but that you said it wasn't a fast car, considering the import competition, it is indeed a fast car for it's time, during the same period, bmw m3's were running upper 14's (keep in mind an m3 is considered by most to be a "super car", so mid 15's from a mitsu was impressive and very fast, even more so when you realize it's most direct competitors were still in the upper teens and even low 20's.

GS-T Spyders are slow stock. They're heavy and have a crap turbo. They have potential when you change the turbo...before that? eh.

If you are quoting v6 times then yeah, but otherwise no.

from what I hear one of the fastest stock eclipse is the 95 GSX. I think its a mid 14. Not exactly sure though. Ahhhh who cares you would beat him from a light on a non busy street. Why does your car shut down at 70? Man that would really have to suck! I hate not being able to go over about 95ish....LOL:lala:

I shut the car down at 70...sigh...

I'm not going crazy on a busy road like Bruce B. Downs.

Ontogenesis - I'm sorry, we have different opinions. Mid 15's is not fast by any comparision. I'm sorry we have different opinions, but to each his own.

Ok, I got my answer fron Inwo. Thank you.

The 3rd Gen f-bodies average 17's...seriously. Some may be a little faster, some may be a little slower, but they are a 17 second car.

Trust me, I know my car (same engine/tranny as you) will run 17's...

Well how many thirdgens have my mods? I'm not average...My car is no average RS. Not saying my car is fast or anything.

That is meaningless to the topic...

Just lock the dang topic before this turns into a flame war when it shouldn't be. My original question was answered, this is done.
