89 RS vs. 96 mustang cobra...Do i even have a chance?

alright I just installed a weiand 142 blower (4.5psi) with a 700cfm holley double pumper carb on to my carbed 357...More mods I have are a crane 272* cam, hedman long tube headers, true duals, 3.42 gears, turbo 350 with a shift kit...I havent run on a dyno or in the 1/4 mile so I dont know what it runs....

Here are the specs on the cobra...Underdrive pulleys, PRO_M MAF, k and n filter, 5 speed, stock rear gears, BBK throttle body, and thats it....they said it dynoed at 363 rwhp which I kinda find hard to believe but what ever they think....

So do I have any chance at all against him????

I actually think you will beat him. You should pretty much have this down unless you have a brain fart or something.
I don't see any "big" mods on his list(or her). I don't think they dynoed at that much HP thats a lot for a pretty much stock Cobra. Maybe 263 to the wheels? No headers? No exhaust? No cam? Heads? You got this in the bag unless there is somthing he or she is not telling you about this car.

I know alot of guys with some bad a$$ mustangs and I have yet to see any of them put down those kind of numbers with bolt ons. My friends 347 stroker stang barely puts just a little over 380 to the wheels so i doubt this guy is doing 363. He is either not telling you something or he is an idiot (like my friend who thinks he is putting down 300 hp in his dakota with a catback and a chip). If he is puttin out the numbers he says the race will be close but I think you should have it if your car is in good tune. Good Luck.

Car-Stats.com Report for 1996 Ford Mustang Cobra
Obtained from C&D August, 1997
0-60: 5.4 Transmission: Unknown
1/4 Mile: 14
1/4 Speed: 102

He may at best be in the mid 13's if he can drive.
I have no idea what the power ratings were that year. Maybe 240-260hp I am guessing. Any Mustang guys wanna help out here? lol.

if im not mistaken, you just got that blower on there right?

if i were you, i would worry less about the mustang and more about having your car setup correctly in the best tune it can be.
then when you race, win or lose, atleast you know you gave it your all, and it wasnt some dull "the carb was lean" or "the timing was way off"..

MR. DUDE----I am not going to race him this week or next week. I am going to make sure its running at tip top shape before i run it into the ground...by the way they just let the car sit in the garage with the 64 1/2 mustang they have.....which is there project car...so the cobra wont see any big performance parts to worry about..

I understand about the tuning stuff is first above all but I just hate the kid talking crap that my car with a blower on it will lose badly to his dad's car....

wonder why the specs are the same for the "SVT" vs the standard "cobra"?

cause ALL Cobras are "SVT"s

Yea, all Cobras are SVT thats fords "Special Vehicle Team". The '96 Cobras have 305hp stock but with the DOHC 4.6 (GT's have SOHC) they are pretty damn stout. And they do take really good to simple boltons even though those numbers still seem high. Just make sure you go from a stop I dont think you should attempt to run his high end especially if its a 5-speed.

Later,
Steve

or so you would think, In '94 and '95 (the 5.0 Cobra's) autos were an option although not many were produced.

Rated at 305 hp, should make about 260 rwhp stock, and with those few bolt ons, in the 270-280 range. with stock gears mid 13s, with some steep gears (they love them) and some good driving, low 13s! You should have it though!
