Does my car have a chance in winning?

Hey Guys
I have a quick question to ask if my camaro would won my friend
I am not sure when this started but I guess everyone in the club I am in is expecting for me and my friend to race
So here are the info

My friends ride
89 camaro RS convert
It was 305 tbi but converted to 350tpi all stock
He has a mod trans with corvette servo, shift kit and a 3200 stall convertor
And he has 3.42 posi gears in the rear

Okay so here comes my ride
84 camaro z28
Stock L69 all stock expected for the aluminum intake and edelbrock TES headers with 3in exhaust to 2.5 outputs
The car runs good
I have a T5 in it
With 3.08 gears

Let me know if I have a chance
Also I have 3.73 gears posi I been wanting to put for a while but haven't and also I have a crane cam I have on the side not installed yet

I appreciate for the help
Any advice would be helpful
Thanks
Valentin

Sorry to say it but IMO your buddies car would win since he has the bigger motor, lower gears and fuel injection.

X2. Your buddy's car looks like a low 14 sec car. Yours looks like about a low 15 to high 14 sec car. But you never know for sure. Race em and find out for sure.

if you are gonna race him, install the cam, and 3:73 rearend, you may have a chance then, he's definitely up on power....

Re: Does my car have a chance in winning?

Thanks guys for the help
I guess I an gonna have to wait till I drop in my 350
It was going to be a 3 part race but my T5 is acting up for right now and had to put the race on hold

I am gonna have someone recheck my 350 since I have already added some mods to it
Hopefully I get my T56 in time for he race and sell my T5 to make more power

Thanks again

A stock 350 TPI making 250-275hp? Your kidding right? This is why children overrate their cars all the time... the spread of bad information.... Lets try 245hp max.... (for the 350tpi in the 90's)

Your buddy is running a stock 350 TPI, 3.42 gears, with a 3200 converter? That's way too much converter for a stock TPI, as that only gives him 1000-RPM to play with before the engine runs out of breath. Unless he switches to an HSR, or if he at leat siameses the TPI setup, you may very well have him (if you know how to shift that T5). Put that crane cam in, along with some better rods in the Quadrajet. IMO, you'll take him that way....

Yeah he is running a 3200 stall convertor he got the trans from a friend that had it on his camari a while back but his car was modded
My friends car on the other hand is stock he haven't done anything to his car he was thinking of doing some mods but he hasnt

I did kinda race him for a quick second the other day we were rolling and we both accelerate and I notice our cars were equal in power kinda surprise

I can shift okay but not that well in racing wise since I converted my camaro to 5 speed I still haven't had time to really shift it since I am trying to take care of my car
On my carb I do have a quadrajet that was kinda mod for my 350 but didn't had the chance to install it to my 305 since that carb was modes for my 350

Thanks for your help Street Lethal I didn't know that what you posted online really helpful

Thanks
Valentin

Re: Does my car have a chance in winning?

Okay guys.. here is a quick update

84 Z28 5.0LHO vs 89 IrocZ 5.7TPI

We raced twice to see what is there is a different outcome

My 84 camaro won both races

I did though the 5.7 tpi was going to win since you guys said if was more power
I want to check out my friends camaro to see if I can help him get some more ponies since my 350 HO will be going in soon and I want to see what will happen
