I've come to notice most people are completely oblivious to the actual performance figures of these cars. ( Had a couple people ask what size V6 my car has, to which I heartily chuckled at them, and a few other people guess I had over 300hp stock )

So whats some of the dumbest things you've seen people do in traffic to try and " race " you?

( Please omit the ***** 4cyl stories. I'm sure we all have enough of those to last an entire bonfire party )

I once had a random guy in a minivan try and race me...wtf?

The topper though was just now. On my way home from the grocery store, this woman in 04+ Bonneville is merging onto the highway at less than 30mph...Keep in mind this is a dual ramp. Cars on my right are trying to merge as well.

So this woman is going very slow and the ******** in the pickup-truck next to me decides that he wants to force me to merge by starting to come into my lane. I begin to **** bricks at this point after seeing a semi-truck ( which is doing around 60 ) pretty close behind me in the lane I'm being forced into. At this point, I drop into Drive out of Overdrive and punch it to get around this slow woman and crazed pickup-truck who I'm sure is out to kill me and fly past the Bonneville up to a safe 65mph in a couple seconds. ( And no, I didn't cut anyone off. Luckily there was nobody in the 2nd lane. )

About 30 seconds later, the Bonneville goes cruising past me and the woman flips me the bird....WTF?!

I swear...none of this stupid crap happens when I'm driving anyone elses car. Just the GTA. It must just attract *******s.

 

Ehh it is probably just the first time they have seen a kept up thirdgen for 20 years and probably are like "oh he must be a bad a$$ or something. Let me show him up" I never had anything like this happen but I havent drove mine for too long but my dad almost got in a gun fright over his car at a club in the early 90's I love that story

 

it's because of the new cars/technology that have people blinded. They dont understand technology,so therefore they think their new Ford Focus 4cyl is something special cause its new. If that minivan the other day that was ****ing with me on the highway only knew that earlier i was neck and neck with a 2012 Charger hemi r/t ,then i don't think he would have tried racing me. Oh and not to mention the chevy cruise or chevy aveo or countless little Hondas even turbo hondas that thought they could pass me. LOL. People don't know that displacement still wins. A thirdgen 350 tpi is basically a Corvette and most of us arent stock either. I had a woman in a new Fiat 500 confidently think she could pass me the other day. I put at least 6 bus lenghts on her and after that she wouldnt look over at me anymore. lol!

 

It's because GM made these cars in mostly 305 engines and v6's. They were slow.Also Thirdgens are musclecars if you have the 350 tpi or HO 305 5 speed,yet most fail to realize this. Even the 305 tbi has potential but u have to modify it.

 

I have to agree with you for the most part. People see our cars and since they are " old ", they are automatically slow as dirt ( while most of the 305s and V6s WERE slow, I digress ) or they are very intimidated by our exhaust note and their own ignorance. They have no clue what we have under the hood, but from the sound of it, it MUST be big so don't try and race them!

That's usually the two mentalities when talking to a stranger about these cars. It's a very rare occurrence to find someone who knows their stuff beyond their own personal car. ( And even then, everyone likes to talk up their car like its the fastest thing under the sun. )

Guy I used to talk to swore up and down that his base model 07 Grand Prix would put me down hard. When I destroyed him out of the hole, he stopped trying at 40mph. Then he got a 95 base model Impreza. This car too, he claimed would take me simply because it was a 5-speed. Putting an epic beat down on the 250k mile 98hp 4cyl was a waste of my gas. He put it up for sale the next day. Now he has a 01 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.7L V8 making a whopping 30hp more than my car. I'm not wasting my time beating that too. It's pretty clear the guy has a problem admitting the GTA is anything but slow and its 100% based on the fact that the car is 24 years old.

Haha. Try living in Texas. In the Houston area. That crap happens to me every 15 minutes I'm on the road, NO JOKE. For every 50 drivers on the road there are at least 2 idiots and 1 psychopath in a Pickup Truck.

 

Haha...these are funny stories, but i insist, please alll of you come try and drive with the idiots we have here in Jersey. We got the dumbasses from New York and Staten Italy, who think they know how to drive and then it just causes chaos for everyone. no one uses blinkers here by the way either. i feel as if im the only one who ever does.
Just got back from quite a funny story actually...one guy in a 4 door cobalt ss (gay) and another to my right in a scion tc (really.....) well they both thought their cars were so cool and thought my hunk a junk 91 was garbage.....until i spun the tires when the light went green for about idk a good 40 yards. gotta love rwd then there was enough smoke that they couldnt see anymore and they went about their business and had a lovely evening.

 

Haha. It's funny that they think they are so sporty. Same thing with the older Tcs. a 92 RS automatic STOCK is at least as fast as one of those. Maybe a little quicker. You have to get the 500 Abarth before you get anywhere nears sporty, and you have to get the Super Sport version of that before you get anywhere near quick.

 

I've had 3 people now ask me what 4 cylinder I've put in my car??? WTF Come on, I know its not a V8. But people think just because they hear a ppssss when I let off the gas that it has a four banger in it.

Same here, I've had guys in trucks try to "race" me. And I will just dissapear on them. I remember one day a guy driving a 04ish hemi dodge ram decided to try to race with me and I might as well have killed him, but he caught up to me while i was at a red light a mile up the road. He just looked over and said holy **** before turning the other way. Even guys with new rustangs dont realize how quick some of us thirdgens are, ive beaten a couple and lost to a couple but in the end everyone always seems sooooo surprised that these cars can be fast

 

Lots of stories but the one that makes me the most angry is EVERY time I pass someone on my bike to get to a nice empty spot on the freeway some asshat takes it as a challenge to try to keep up with me and then rides my ***.

 

So does the V6

 

I think people are getting worse and worse at driving its almost scary to take my car out. I just drive around town a little and put my car away after about an hour of fun.

The other day I was on my way to eat turning a corner and a kid in a cobalt ss was pointing at me with the holy **** wide eyed look and turns on the same street as me pulls up next to me and asks what is it?

I'm assuming hes seen me romping around town as I have been doing often and is curious what motor it is so I respond "Its an LT1" and after no response to that I decided to showoff since he obviously didn't want to race
and just wanted to see what it could do I just downshifted to first and dropped back and took off. Which it does way better these days with the relo brackets.
plus Its always entertaining to hear my car echo off the car next to me and see them in the rearview about a 1/2 a mile back a few seconds later.

Most of the time I just get honked at and then I look and its someone giving me a thumbs up. But there are the ones that look at you in disgust with the evil eye of jealousy.

 

Must be nice. Around here, unless its a Mustang, fart can Honda, brand spanking new, or BIG SHINY RIMZ DAWG, your car isn't nice. I get the look of disgust from 90% of the younger people I'm next to at the light. The other 9% either don't care or don't look at all, and the final 1% actually give a complement. Actually had an older ( Late 20s early 30s ) Mustang driver comment on how he loved the rims ( One of the PO's painted the gold section white and got these centercaps http://www.fbodywarehouse.com/fbw/images/P/MZ612a.jpg )

Once had a guy in a fart can hatcback Civic as me if I wanted to race after blowing by me on a neighborhood street while I was doing 25mph ( watch out guys we got a badass over here ). It was pouring outside. I smirked at him and said " No sorry, I don't want to waste my gas " and then proceeded to spin my tires half way down the street un-intentionally ( near bald ) as he sat there watching. I wonder if he figured out why I said No after that.

 

Problem is that people assume that its always a younger driver in our cars and cut us off alot,ride your ***,or slow down right infront of you.All of which boils my blood.

I can handle people asking the usual questions,what yr is the car,what motor is it etc. I never pop the hood random ppl..I simply say its a 305carb w/catback and cam lol.rarely I get guys who can tell its an ls motor come up and say thats a nice car/sleeper.

I love when other drivers get so close and just tap the brake light n watch em panic,shouldnt be that close where i cant even see your hood in my rearview! Or your at a light on a hill..clearly rolling slightly back so that they see id like some roll back room and they inch forward.

Ive had one tree hugger lady pull up next to me in a late 90'2 caravan and said my car is the root cause of air pollution driving a v8 so loud! Wtf you think that pos v6 is doing better than my lq4 puffin out blue smoke? I proceeded to tell her the only times I cause air pollution is by doing this ..*peeled out on the green* Bitch lol

About 12 years ago I was leaving the local Saturday evening car meet spot. As I'm driving down the road some idiot in a turd brown square body Crown Vic comes screaming up next to me making all kinds of noise. When I looked at him he starts yelling at me to race him. Then the genious starts doing neutral drops at about 25-30 mph. Well...it only took about 4 of those before I heard the most horendous sound ever and noticed that he wasn't next to me. Turns out the guy went to my high school and I found out later that he threw the car into park on accident trying to look cool for his girl. He broke the driveshaft and and managed to crack the tranny case. Never saw that car again.

It really irks me sometimes that just because we drive muscle cars, every asshat and their cousin thinks were out cruising for races and try and act like hardasses to provoke us into a race.

It falls back to the misconception that these cars are a lot faster than they are or vice versa. The kid in the Crown Vic thought beating a Camaro would be an accomplishment ( Most likely because its a muscle car so it just HAS to be fast! ) and his girl would think more of his car. But, being an assclown ruined his car and was probably a story the girl told to everyone for them to laugh their asses off.


It also REALLY pisses me off when someone pulls out off a sidestreet, out of a parking lot, etc infront of me when I'm clearly doing 40-45mph and they force me to slow down to 20 because they dont want to give the car a little oomph. They look at me like I'm the ******* when I go around them.

or when 2 cars are doing 2-3mph UNDER the speed limit and they just HAVE to drive side by side to hold up everyone else. People like that should have their license revoked IMO.

Oh man I HATE when people do that. And your right they always look at you like your the idiot who doesn't know how to drive. Or they go to turn in somewhere and slam on the brakes with no blinker at all.

I had some guy in a Lexus whip out of a parking lot and shoot across three lanes of traffic and never signalled once. I pulled up next to him and asked if his overpriced Toyota came with the blinker option. He said "ya it has blinkers." I replied back "oh ok, then you must be one of those a holes that just doesn't to use them." I drove off before he could respond back.

 

Just had another stupid driver incident today.. Had a girl come screaming up on me from a on ramp on the freeway, speed limit is 55mph I am already doing 65mph keeping up with traffic, so she almost side swipes me, lays on the horn for literally 30 seconds, and proceeds to flip me the bird as she goes past me at least doing 80mph.. I wasn't cutting her off or anything, I was wayyy ahead of her and she just came up on me like a raped ape.

 

Musta been that time of the month and something about your car made her rage the **** out.

I was pulling on to the interstate trying to merge, and this DA in a brand new super duty, who is in the acceleration lane behind me, decides to pass me as I run out of merge lane, he took my hole and ran me into the emergency lane.

 

My friend used to tell me that his mom's 05' Mustang V6 stock could beat my dad's 02' Z28 that had magnaflow exhaust and K&N intake. Now the other day he said his 06' Dodge Durango could beat my 91' Z28 because his car is newer and has a "haul" mode that he supposedly "hauls a**" in. I'll race him once I get my new brakes and tires put on (:

 

Haha. Go for it. Even a stock 230hp TPI with a shift kit or a five speed could take him. Sub 7 second 0-60, and there is no way his durango is doing anywhere near that. Even a good dekoda is in the 7-9 second range if it has a V8.

 

Lol, I can't wait to. He thinks my car is slow because it's a muscle car and the speedometer only goes up to 145.

 

This. I completely mauled a v8 Magnum Dakota last summer while I was still in overdrive.

 

If you have the L98 it will do 148 bone stock. With a simple tune or exhaust it will do well over 150. What does his say it can do? It's probably electronicly limited to 115 no matter what it says. Plus, speedometers mean next to nothing these days, because they are WAY to optimistic. My friend's stock 06 Huandei, Haudaie, Huaiiaayaie... Optima 4 door, has a 180mph speedo, as does the new VW Passat.

 

I don't remember what he says his car can do, but I do know he always says if he puts it in "Haul" mode doing 60 his car will fly up to 80 without even moving his foot lol

What drivterain do you have? Just curious, I mean, I could probably beat this guy easy.

 

700r4 auto transmission, and I believed the car was engine swapped to the L98 before I bought it, I'm still trying to figure that out. But if it wasn't swapped I have the 5.0, 305

 

Either TPI shouldn't have a problem with anything that isn't actually fast. Aka trucks and 4cyl cars. The L98s weren't much faster at all stock if it makes you feel any better.

 

I think there's something going on with the tolls at the entrances to the turnpike because as soon as people go through them they transform into complete drooling retards.

Had a guy in an eclipse in front of me in the fast lane who would not move over to let me pass even though the middle lane was empty and he was only doing like 60. So i started passing him on the right and he hits the gas as soon as he sees me. I dropped the t56 into 3rd and it was tail lights for him, LOL.

 

lol does he not know Eclipses only have like....200hp stock?

 

Actually, a 230hp 305TPI T5, does 14.9 in the 1/4mi, while a 245 350TPI with a 3:42 Posi rear end (which did come factory in some years and was optional in others), will do 14.3.




Depends on the year and trim. They can have anywhere from 130-265hp, but the best model to get for performance is the AWD 220bhp models from the mid to late 90s. They're quick off the line but at highway speeds there's no contest with the power of a V8 (especially a 350 with a T56 behind it).

 

Hate to say it but those came with the 4G63 and could run 20 psi pretty close to stock so the average ***** could turn them into a fast little grenade easily that would outrun plenty of stock 305's and 350's, but there still just cheap hand grenades with that much boost all stock. Then again 95 percent of all eclipses are just 140 hp posers.

 

Yea until Mitsubishi's garbage *** Tranny fell apart after driving down the block.

 

Well I cant say too much about tranny's my stock T5 is just looking for a chance to explode, but it's got a reason too I have some real torque behind mine.

Well I baby it and hope it will live until i can do a T56 which should be much better than this but that's gonna cost me.
