Cavalier SS ?
I hate to keep talking about cavaliers, but I heard when they stop production of camaros they are going to make a turbo 4 cylinder cavalier Z24 SS that will make 260+HP.Has anyone else heard about this? What would the 1/4 mile et's be on that?

If I was a 16yr old kid and didn't know jack about cars, I would love to one day say I owned an SS Cavalier. can you sense the sarcasm, I laid it on pretty thick.

LOL ,I agree with 88gta305 that Ford is kicking our a$$, they have the lighting truck and a supercharged cobra.Hey if were lucky they'll make a turbo 6 cylinder Corvette Z06. If I cared about gas milege I'd drive a Geo Metro.

I'm wrote a letter to GM asking why they couldn't bring back the 454SS.
Think about the new Vortec 8100 (495 ft/lbs) in a shortbox C1500 with fulltime 4wd, don't bother with all the fancy luxury stuff, just seats, wheel, and shifter.
wheeee!

I don't think that's true...I don't think GM will ever offer a Cavalier with that much HP...I wish they would it would be a cool car, but I highly doubt it. John where did you hear that at?
#11
I heard today at scool that the reason the cavalier has 26 hp, is because it has twin turbos. Now i don't knwo if thatstrue or not, the thought of a cavalier competing with corvettes and mustangs scares the sh** outta me. Where i live, people turn cavaliers into ricers, an now increase the hp to 260? Man, cars these days are getting unbelievable! But that isn't stoppin m, im still sticking w/ the old TPI L98!!!!!

ive heard they might put a supercharger on the 2.4L twin cam engine for approx 200hp. GM claims quarter mile times in the low 15s.

In the new Motor Trend there is an article on a twin turbo Trailblazer concept(i think it makes 400hp). There is something a soccer mom needs! No word if Gm will put it into production.!'m feeling mighty outgunned with my measley 210 hp LB9. Soon Iwill only be a challenge for entry level Hyudai's and mopeds.

I heard it from a guy at work who just bought a brand new cavalier.he said he was asking the dealer about aftermarket parts and I guess thats what they told him. Thats why I was asking if anyone else here had heard of it or if he was joking with me.Oh yeah he also said it would run 12's,I don't about that.

Well, I don't think it's gonna happen, the rears it's head here when you combine the words "twin turbo" and the acronym "GM". Now I'm just taking a wild guess, but has GM EVER made a car with twin turbos as a stock option? I'll just venture No as the answer. Ok that said, supercharging? possibly, it's popular these days and has been done in the past. 200 Hp is the most I could see them puting under the hood, because that seems to be where the I4 meets the V6 these days. Also consider that the major competitors (in the same bracket I believe) of the Cavalier are the Ford Focus and the Dodge/Plymoth Neon. Which both come with about 150 Hp at most.

Have you guys seen those new Cavaliers with the SS stickers on them?, i've seen quite a few around here, they aren't Z24's, just regular 2 door cavaliers but with bowtie/SS stickers on the sides. These cars really **** me off.

There is a new Neon coming out called the STR (I think) that has a supercharged 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine and it puts out 215hp. I think if GM would make a 200+hp Cavalier and could put a warranty on the transmition and half shafts (the WEAKEST parts of our cars) then that could be a good replacment for the Camaro for the short time the Camaro will be gone (hopefully). Think about it, 2650lbs (approx the weight of the new Cavalier) + we'll say 235 hp, and 210 ft/lbs = a hell of a car.
After saying all of that I don't think GM will ever make a Supercharged Cavalier come on it's Chevrolet's entry level car. But with there no more Camaro (crosses fingers for 2005 when there are reports that the Camaro COULD come back) you never really know what Chevrolet will do for the new 2004 Cavalier.
Sorry for such a long post
P.S. don't flame me I am just posting my thoughts

phew... felt my *** getting warm there LOL
Was the twin turbo vette an OEM option or just a contracted company doing the mods?
I should have added to my post that my info is usually educated speculation... and guesses based on what I see.
Anyhow, GM will bring the Camaro back or make the Monte Carlo or Impala the new RWD "sports" platform, once it sees it's mistake.

i have heard something about a turbo version of the new cavalier using a turbo and the new ecotec 2.2L, but i don't know if it will come out or not.
ive also heard about a supercharged version of the 2.4L (im sure that will help them blow a few more head gaskets )
this wouldn't surprise me, since i have seen a lot of cavalier/sunfires at local dealerships dressed in factory body kits. i also the other day saw a 4-door version of the z24
i did see in a mag a while back that gm is trying to capture a share of the sport/compact market, since it has become a huge industry.
but, isn't it when everyone else is doing something, that you try to be different? or put your own new radical spin on it?
don't conform, gm, bring the camaro back, and blow away the rest of the automotive world. you have the power to do it: look at the gn, tta, vette, and vette zr-1, ls1 and lt1, impalla ss (rip) , and the holden group in austrailia
anyways, sorry to rant, but that's my opinion
