What soap for weekly car wash???

What soap are you guys using to wash your cars???

I've read alot about dish soap being too potent on the paint but not a bad idea if it hasn't been washed for awhile... heard dish soap can also leave a film tho. Lastly I read a couple places that Dawn liquid gel(blue I think) is the stuff to use if anything for dish soap for a real cleaning. Tho not supposed to be used often.

I'm going to buy a purpose car soap cleaner and am just wondering what you guys, ESPECIALLY YOU KAZ (did I get it right this time?) are using and like or don't like. Also do ya prefer using a sponge or terry cloth or 100% cotton towel etc..?
I'm using a 100% cotton sponge with the the big loops in it. Supposed to be really safe from scratching the car as the dirt gets caught up inside the curls instead of sitting on the surface and having the risk of scratching.

LOL!!! Well I use a soap that isn't sold in stores, but...If I had to choose..some of the Mother and Simonioz stuff at Canadian tire is pretty good stuff. Meguires is also a good product. You want to find something with a waxing and easy rinse agent inside..makes for easy rinsing and a really nice shine.

Only use dish soap if you are intending to strip off the wax off your car and don't want to go through the trouble of a clay bar. The grease cutters in dish soap pretty much strips off all the wax.

I like meguiar's though, pretty easy on and off.

I've been using this stuff for years on all my cars:

It's supposed to be self drying, but I still use a chamois anyway as I found it leaves water marks if you don't. You can buy it at Walmart and some of the Crappy Tires.

This will sound abit repetitive, but I also use the Meguiars. I use the Soft Wash. Seems to work for me. I like the Meguiars line, easy to use and always leaves the car looking good, no streaks or marks. Just don't try and wax the car after you have been drinking, the tire shine bottle looks the same as the bottle of wax But that's another story....

I actually use, whatever soap I can get my hands ... usually Palmolive dish soap ... it's gentle on my hands as I wash my car ... LOL. But seriously, I've never put much thought into soap, seems that Maguires gets a lot of thumbs up. Even w/what I've been using namely dish soap I get a nice shine & my paint is holdin' up.

You shouldn't use dish soap to often, it takes off all, or any wax from the car. Now if that is why your using it then OK, but don't do it too often or the car will lose it's lustre.

I myself use whatever Canadian Tire has on for sale, Turtle Wax, Meguiars, etc. All you need is a cap full in a bucket of water. The most important thing I find is to have a good washing mit (wool or faux-wool is what I use), and a good 100% cotton towel for drying the car.

I don't like the chamois because dirt and grit can easily get caught in it. Its far less likely to happen with a wool mit.

I have a convertible, and like to use a soft fibre brush to clean the top. Circular motions with the brush, and a good rinse keep it looking like new.

To dry the car, I use a bath towel. There 100% cotton, and one large towel can dry the whole car adequately. If i'm up to it, i'll usually go over the whole car with Meguiars Quick Detailer. You simply spray it on, and wipe it off with a clean 100% cotton towel.

I used to use Black Magic on the rubber, but the nozzle on every single bottle I have ever purchased was defective. I would either get too much spray, or not enough. And the damn nozzle would always drip. I've since gone back to Armor All. It isn't as good a product for my tires, but who cares!

Oh yah, get a good dust brush. The cheap ones really don't pick anything up.

Since i'm writing, I might as well tell you whatelse I do to the car. For the exterior glass I use Keroseen. The Keroseen not only cleans the glass, it acts as a lubricant beleive it or not. You guys already know that if your on the highway doing 100km+, and its raining outside, you really don't have to put your wipers on, the wind shears the beads of water right off the windsheild. If you don't know what i'm talking about, or you no longet get that effect, try the Keroseen...it works.

I use Windex on the interior glass.

One last tip i'll leave you with, is Silicone spray. I use about 8 cans a year. I spray that s%@t everywhere I see rubber. Use the Canadian Tire brand, this stuff will not harm delicate engine components, or your seals like other aerosols do. In the winter I use 3 cans on hoses, plastic parts...anything black. In the summer months, I spray all of the seals and weatherstripping. This keeps them clean and water repellent.

Any ways...hope this helps.

I use the Rain-X Spot Free car wash - it doesn't need you to dry it, and I find that it DOESN'T leave any spots.

Plus I got mine at $5/bottle (a litre), so I can't go wrong.
