THirdgen Prices
Holy $%&!, I was just looking at Auto Trader .ca for kicks and I'm floored at the prices some people are asking for their thirdgens. Here are a list of the top 10 vehicles in order of price:
1989 Iroc Convertible 68,900km $ 18,900
1988 Iroc Convertible 99,000km $ 17,500
1991 Z28 305 Auto 59,000km $ 17,000
1992 Rs 42,000km $ 16,950
1992 Z28 70,700Km $15,900
1992 Z28 Convertible 119,000km $14,900
1992 Z28 103,000km $ 13,900
1988 Iroc Z 89,000km $ 13,500
1986 Iroc Z 32,000km $12,900
1986 Iroc Z 42,000km $12, 000
I wonder if anyone is actually getting anywhere near their asking price? These prices seam quite high to me, maybe I should unload my car......

Yikes!!!! I see 95 and up Z28 for those prices at dealerships, never mind private sales. Some people!!!
Mind you some of those do have very low milage, but...
Heck Steve yours being a 90 Vert, maybe you should ask $20,000?????

I'd be extremely happy if I got $12,000.00 for it
I really think these prices are way too high. Thats why I'm curious if these guys are getting anywhere close to what they are asking for these cars.Maybe its the thirdgens time to appreciate in value. There appears to be alot of early 4th gens out there in the 8-10 g range and nice thirdgens are getting harder to find.Who knows....

I wonder what my car is worth? But I expect what it's worth and what I can expect to get for it are 2 different things. That bone stock '92 RS for $16,900 is insane.
Steve, don't sell the car. No, wait........sell the car and buy mine.

Lately I've really been wondering the legitimacy of the mileage on f-bodies that I've seen in the AutoTrader. Is it just me or is there an abnormal amount of low mileage cars for sale? When I bought mine 5 years ago I don't remember seeing that many then! Something seems fishy to me.
I agree that the prices seem out of control...but don't complain, it's to your advantage.

If your crazy enough to ask $13500 for a pretty much stock 86 Iroc Z, and somebody is stupid enough to offer you $10000 thinking they're getting a deal, then he's still making $4000 more than he should on that car.
I would never pay more than $6000 for a stock thirdgen, even if it's mint.

I think the sudden increase in the value of IROC's, or even the 5.0L for that matter, is the fact that SUV's have been king for almost a decade now and the trend is turning towards sports cars. There are a ton of new sports coupes coming from Nissan, Infinity, Toyota, etc. Sure, Ford, GM and Chrysler are still in the game with there not so "affordable" sports cars, but I’ll bet you the imports are taking a lot of their market share these days.
The 3rd gen (especially IROC) has a classic body style, and there are some really nice "clean" cars out there. Not to mention the insurance is probably cheaper on a 3rd gen then it is on an Infiniti, Firebird, etc.
Like I’ve said in the past, "A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay you for it", and not everyone is as cheap...I mean frugal as the members on this board
Almost forgot, If any of you haven’t already, I suggest getting your car appraised. As you can see from zedders research, now’s the time to get your car appraised cause these guys are going to look at fair market value….and 3rd gens are hot right now.

I paid $8000 for mine 2 years ago
I dont know anyone I would trust to apraise my car around were I live. The only guy that does it in town is a Ford guy that has several old 1949 Ford trucks. I think he would look at my car and go.... Yups its a Camaro......worth say $3000.

If your gonna get your car appraised, make sure they're licensed and registered with the appraiser's association, or whatever it's called. If they're not registered, then it means nothing. Nothing to insurance, nothing to potential buyers. And be prepared, appraisal value doesn't ever come close to what you've actually put into the vehicle.
