Finished fabricating my intake today!! I'm happy
I finished my Intake today, Now it dont look like I'm taking air from a "removed tail light" as someone said
it took:
3" Mandrel bent alluminum pipes from Mufflex, (2 peices each with a 90 degree bend in them.
3" cone filter from autozones rice isle
3" Rubber Plumbing sleeve cut in 1/2
each 1/2 on one side of MAF sensor
then the rubber throttle body thing
Used some hose clamps and its done.

man, that is s0 trick
nice man, nice. i'm seriously gonna try and do that tomorrow. how much extra length did you have to play with on the end of each 90* bend? And since you've got a bird, you don't have a battery where that filter is going do you? i have a Z28 so i'm not sure that mine is gonna angle down like that... i'll just have to wait and see. I've got a paycheck burnin a hole in my pocket! are you putting it on tomorrow? slap that baby on right now and tell us how it sounds!

I like mine better than anything I have seen on the boards (hence the reason I made it that way) but does any company actually produce an intake like mine. I dont see why they wouldnt, they do for every import ever produced even though they prolly flow 200% more air then they need, but I havent seen ONE on the market for our cars.
As far as I know SLP is the only company that makes a CAI setup for thirdgens. It suprises me to because you would think their would be more demand for them. Especially since SLP's is like 200 bucks.
Yours looks really good though, a lot better than my pvc pipe does. Gets me thinking that I need to redo mine. How much did it cost all together?
Thanks Barrett

The most expensive part was the pipes, I got them each 3 Ft long cause I wanted some extra for another project, but I got (2) 3ft long 3" pipes with a 90 degree bend at each end from Mufflex for $107.
then I got the filter from auto zone for $19.99, Rubber sleeve from Sears Hardware for $7.00 and another maybe $2.00 or $3.00 in hose clamps, the rubber piece that connects to the throttle body I allready had from my suncoast air box (P.O.S) that I had before.
If I can find somewhere to get the rubber throttle body piece, and get the 3" alluminum for a reasonable price, maybe I'll make these and sell them.

Looks pretty good.
What kind of gains are you expecting from that over a normal setup?
I'm just curious cause I'm interesting in a CAI for my Camaro and just want to know what kind of gains are seen

no clue, but I know with a 383 and lt1 intake and a pretty high flowing intake system I will max out my MAF sensor long before the intake it self corks the air flow.
If I made them for under $150 (SLP's is $200) would anyone be interested in buying them? I have to see how possible it would be to make and no loose money, the determining factor would be the price I can get the pipes for.

I thought I mentioned that, I have a plexiglass shield to do just that, That part is just on the car now, its not really part of the intake.
Im thinking even if people wanted it I wont make it, to much work for to little money, I couldnt charge that much for it. It wasnt that hard to make if I did it.

Here is one for the speed density crowd. That is .085 wall 6061 tubing with an elbow from Upfront industries.

I had the same intake that is in your formula. In fact I still have the whole thing intact along with a K&N air filter. Don't get me wrong that is a great stock air ducting, but the 90 degree turns are to sharp and it narrows down to clear the radiator overflow. As you also mentioned the air filter housing needs to be opened up. The 2.5 inch opening is on the small side. I didn't want to butcher the stock one so I made this one.

A cone will fit. I tried it. I wish I still had the filter I would give you the part number. I just went to Autozone and used the K&N book they had. It has custom dimensioned filters in the back. I found what I needed and orded through them.
On a side note that is a sharp looking car! I want those rims. I have the gold crosslace rims and I have been wanting to see how black would look. I had my car painted this winter and I had him paint the hood extractors black. I think the wheels would match well. I do not hav any good pics yet since it is up on Jack stands more than it is one the road. It runs fine I am just finding it hard to leave well enough alone. My wife says I should just weld some jacks to it, I would save time. I contenplated it till I realized it would add weight to my already bohemouth third gen

yeah i am going to start modding my car soon, i am slowing getting some minor bugs out, like power windows, fog lights, tune-up, and some fluids to change.
yeah this is my best thirdgen i have had, i was thinking on getting some firehawk rims, but i want to leave my car looking stock from the outside.
i wil figure out something nice, easy, and cheap to build/buy; for the air intake.
