help!!!! Need to beat a 5.0!
help!!!! Need to beat a 5.0!
Well, i know this kid that has an 87 mustang GT that has been talking trash about my car for months. I know he has a full exhaust, k&ns, a shifter and thats about it and claims to run like a 13.6 or so. whatever, i dont see it happening. hehe, anyway, its been a while since i last posted and my old best time was a 14.6 with minor boltons ( headers, catback, cat, K&Ns, 3.42s...) in my 86 Z28 w/ the "lowly" 305 TPI. I want to shut this kid up, i REALLY want to smoke his a$$. what else can i do to my car that is a good bang for the buck? o ya, my car also has a ported plenum, AFPR, blah blah blah, nothing major. i was thinking like a cam change and some roller rockers but that maybe a little out of my price range and i wanna race this kid soon! any advice is appreciated, thanks. -Dave
This is probably posted in the wrong forum but i will offer my opinion.
Since your car is an 86 305, it probably could use a cam upgrade. Is your motor a roller block? If so, the LT1 cam. If not the the Crane 2050 emissions legal cam(or other TPI compatible, larger LSA cam).
Also try to add some traction helpers so that you launch better, like LCA and relocator brackets. Also adjustable torque arm. A good launch will help.
I really don't see a 13.6 out of a without more mods than what is losted? has he changed rear gears? HTHs

but this is an absolutely excellent suggestion

I run a 14.1, and all I do is stomp on the pedal when it goes green, I dont need to feather or even think about traction in the least, and thats with a 2,500 stall. I know its not increadibly impressive, but its great traction and I attributre a large portion to the LCA's, the LCA relocs, and my tires (Firehawk SZ50's)

To the question.....it's all been said.....cam, stall, traction (in the form of suspension and/or drag radials)
