Cold air intake 87 GTA
I have searched and looked everyplace. From what I am learning I am going to have to build a cold air intake if I want one.
The way my car is now I have a filter in the front on the passenger side. I can tell though someone cut the plastic top on the filter can though because they did a lousy job. In other words I have no idea how it was originally routed. I also dont like it because it looks restrictive.
Can I see some pictures of what others have done or maybe some ideas. I was reading about people who took the fog lights out and turned the openings into a cold air intake. That sounds cool and I would love to try that but I am wondering how you guys routed everything to keep it looking good.
I am thinking of putting the MAF sensor right in front of the TPI and routing a y-pipe from there but then I am starting to get lost of a good route to get that to the fog light openings.

Those that use the fog lights have Camaros. You can't do that with a Trans Am. Do a search on cold air intakes and you will see plenty of pictures for your Trans Am.
I did one using the LT1 elbow and 3 1/2 inch tubing with my MAF. For your 305 you can use 3" tubing and is less complicated than what I did. So do a search and you will get plenty of ideas.

This brings up another question, how come you can't use a camaro air intake setup on a firebird? Does it have something to do with the hood not closing with it installed, seems like all the holes for attacting it to the front of the engine are there. I have a the set up, I know a little cutting is needed but it would really clean the engine compartment up with the dual filter camaro setup.
Thanks as always

Hi 355SS
That looks good. A lot of thought went into your design. Similiar concept to what I did only better.

Re: Cold air intake 87 GTA
Hi everyone. I'm new to this site. I am currently looking to build a custom cold air intake for my 87 trans am. 5.0 TPI . So any ideas or pics of what you used or built would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You might be able to adapt one for a 88-89
