Anybody know quickly what exactly this little sensor is from an '87 305 LB9 tpi?? It is located just under the runners on the drivers side of the engine. Someone had mentioned it might be a cold start sensor or something.

 

Are you pointing the the round flying-saucer looking thing under the plenum? If so, thats your egr valve. Your arro is no where near your cold start injector.

There IS a cold start valve (injector) on the left side of the engine between the runners for #5 and #7, and a cold start control on the front of the intake base, in the coolant crossover tract.

The control is a temperature sensor and one-shot timer. At or below a given coolant temperature, the control will power the CSI for a defined duration. It will then not power the CSI again until the timer is reset by a system power off and temperature is below the set point.

 

Hey guys thanks alot hey 92Blue I think you're right that was the egr valve I was pointing to and in fact what I wanted to point to but couldn't was exactly what you pointed to because I couldn't see it!! Yes that's right is that the cold start sensor you had pointed to??

Reason I ask is when I had the 350 L98 swap dropped in from the '91 SD (speed density) GTA there was no connection for this sensor (we believe) and me and my mechanic were a little baffled as to where this connnection may go to on the L98.

I do notice the car running at a higher rpm and taking a lot longer to drop down to around 750-800 rpm now with the L98 upon start up. No wiring, harness, or ecm swap was done.

 

I don't believe there is any external wiring for a cold start sensor to the '91 SD L98?? We couldn't locate one between runners #5 - #7.

 

The last year for a thirdgen with a cold start injector was 1988. '89- up did not use them.

Yeah, I was a little confused about that, but dove in with both feet anyway. The profile states "1987 Iroc Z28",but confuses the matter with the remark about the "Heavily moded 350 TPI (L98 from '91 GTA) + 1 power adder." I have to wonder which ECM, which intake, and which injectors were installed. It could have been:

The '87 ECM setup with MAF, the '87 intake with L98 injectors, plus the cold start;

The '87 intake and L98 injectors with the '91 ECM and no MAF;

The '91 intake and injectors, '91 ECM with no MAF, no CSV;

The '91 intake and injectors, '87 ECM and MAF, expecting a CSV;

The '91 intake and LB9 injectors, '87 ECM and MAF, no CSV;

The '87 intake and LB9 injectors with the MAF and '87 ECM, running the L98 lean;

Or, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, baked beans, and spam...

I had to guess at something. Looking more closely at the small photo attached to the original post, it appears to be a later intake. Hopefully, the whole intake was changed and the SD ECM was used, and extra fuel programmed for startup. I can'treally tell if there's a MAF off in the distance or not.

 

Looks likea SLP cold air setup, so prolly not.
