Looks like the fan plug...you have dual fans? If so, follow the harness back from them.

I had the idea it was a fan plug. I'm running a seperate fan switch so I can get rid of this I guess.
Thanks,
Matt
I have a single fan. The car WAS a 305 carb now it's a 350 TPI.

Why would a fan have six wires?

It looks like the plug for the electronic spark control (ESC), which is located on the firewall near the power brake booster and other assorted relays.

Dual fan connectors have a 6 way plug, I'll pop my hood on my '89 later to verify...also, I don't think that connector would reach to the brake booster...looks like it's on the pass-side up front

Hmm, I didn't know that about the dual-fan systems... do they use a third wire for speed/duty cycle control?

Yeah, I noticed that it was on the passenger side too, but the only time I've ever seen that connector on my '86 was for the ESC module. If I recall correctly, dual fans weren't an option until 1988, and vwaltdog has an '87 according to his profile. Maybe a previous owner thought it would be a good idea to "relocate" some of the wiring devices .

Hope you figure it out, vwaltdog.

I think it goes to the MAF sensor.

I just checked my car. It is not the MAF sensor.

All I know is that the male and female connectrs like that one in the pic are located on the diver side of the battery. My one fan is out now, maybe soon I can trace the wires.

The plug is for dual fans.

Not sure why a plug was needed for adding a little extra usless wiring but, this is a GM product we're talking about.

I have the plug rerouted to the passenger side so I can reach the battery for the ecm wire. The ESC is plugged in already.

GM used a plug so they could utilize different fan setups without having to change the entire wiring harness. Thankfully, for anyone wanting to convert a setup to multiple fans, etc.

You should be able to use that plug for your setup, I'm assuming you'll be running the requisite relays and everything, if you've got that, and it's intact with the 12V leads with fusible links, most of your fan wiring is done already. I can see one of the relays hanging there.

Only problem is, that is the only 6 prong weatherpack used on these cars, and it's not too common, if you don't have the other half. I went and bought a "male/female" (tower/socket?) 6 prong and just repinned the wires into the new conenctors, since the stock connector is keyed.

I actually put a separate relay and low temperature switch fan kit.
