Runner dent removal

I am still grinding away at the ends of the runners so the 1.5 ball will fit but I see a problem on one side there are factory dents that will block the ball from going in or out that end. So how does this work? Ive read on here about people doing this wrong and getting egged out dents. Just hammer in till I get that far then reverse out so I don't damage it or is there a way to go all the way through? If it is not going all the way through should I only port one side to safe myself some time? Thanks

I don't even know if the 1.5 ball will fit. Ive ground out the "lips" around the ends and it just doesn't look like it will fit.

use miller light.. not only is it less filling and tastes great but, when it freezes it is less likely to expand as much as water which can pop the tube. The beer has enough water content to quench the thirst of a dented tube.. Use duck tape to seal the ends.. This is not a joke

I'm not sure which part you're serious about.

Re: Runner dent removal

Ok.. I didn't ask what is another way to remove the dents. Ive known about that technique and I keep seeing where other people ask a similar question and you guys throw out the freeze idea using beer or whatever. We are asking what we are asking for a reason. Don't mean to sound like a d!ck but jeez. Anyways I got it all figured out now but thanks for responding to my post.

Have you tried either method? The ball bearing method works great, less filling! It will remove even the smallest dents and imperfections.

Port the flanges a little bit past that, into the runner a bit. You can't expand the flange, or the runner right at the flange, it has no give.

Re: Runner dent removal

Will do when I get more sanding bands. It is also a good thing I'm trying this out on spare set before I do the runners I'm going to use but still don't want to mess up either set. Thanks for the info, I pretty much stopped porting once the lip was gone and smooth with the rest of the inside.

Re: Runner dent removal

I've personally used the water/freezer to remove dents and I can attest that it works perfectly. I filled them with water, laid them in the freezer so the openings were facing upwards and left them in over night. When i work up in the morning, no more dents! Took another 1 hour of slow defrosting to get the ice out tho!

Re: Runner dent removal

I can try and get some pics up sometime today. The water has seemed to remove the large dents but it looks like i might have to buy the steel ball kit to get them to look good. Anyone have any other ideas?

Re: Runner dent removal

interesting. i may do the same. do a search on ebay for a 1-1/2 inch steel monkey fist ball. i found one for 7.00 with free shipping. probably get a few 1-1/4 steel ***** for around the same price. alot cheaper than 40- 60 dollar kits ive seen.

Re: Runner dent removal

I removed the small dents from mine with two ball bearing sizes. They were not that bad so it wasn’t too hard. Like Eightyninef mentioned, I like to know how these things get dented as well.
